Tour the No. 1 City in the U.S. on foot! The Charleston Marathon and Half Marathon highlights the City’s southern charm by racing through Hampton Park, The Battery, Iconic King Street, The Citadel, as well as a finish at Riverfront Park. A Boston Qualifier you’ll want to see for yourself!

Marathon

Start: On Fishburne St in front of Burke High School at 244 President St, Charleston, SC 29403

Finish: Riverfront Park near 1061 Everglades Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405

Route: This year’s Charleston Marathon® is scenic 26.2-mile run that will showcase the beauty and the history of the Lowcountry, featuring Hampton Park, The Citadel, The Battery, Iconic King Street, and a brand new finish at Riverfront Park.

Pace Groups – We have a great group of volunteers who will be pacers for the marathon. We plan to offer the following pace groups: 3:15 | 3:30 | 3:45 | 4:00 | 4:15 | 4:30 | 4:45 | 5:00 | 5:15 | 5:30 and a sweeper. If you would like to run in a pace group, please find the pace group leader holding the sign with your desired pace in the corral when lining up to start the race!

Time Limit: The course has an overall time limit of 6 hours. Participants must be able to maintain a pace of 13:45 min/mile in order to successfully complete the race within the allotted time.

Half Marathon

Start: Corner of Shipbuilding Way and Noisette Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29405

Finish: Riverfront Park near 1061 Everglades Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405

Route: The 5k will take place in North Charleston, around Riverfront Park, and run on portions of the official Charleston Marathon course. It will share the same start line as the Youth Marathon, and the same finish line as the Marathon, Half Marathon and Youth Marathon.

Aid Stations: There will be one aid station in the 5k serving water at mile 1.5.
Support: There will be medical, police and EMS personnel throughout the course, as well as dozens of course volunteers keeping our participants and spectators safe!

Time Limit: The 5k is a family friendly run and we welcome walkers and runners of all experience levels.

Youth Marathon

Start Time: This will be announced closer to race day!

Start: Corner of Shipbuilding Way and Noisette Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29405

Finish: Riverfront Park near 1061 Everglades Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405

Route: The Charleston Youth Marathon® will take place in North Charleston, and run on portions of the official Charleston Marathon course. It will share the same start line as the 5K, and the same finish line as the 5K, Marathon and Half Marathon.

Distance: 1.2 miles on race day

Time Limit: The Charleston Youth Marathon® is a family friendly run and we welcome walkers and runners of all experience levels.

Age Limit: There is no age restriction. If younger then 7 years old, an adult must accompany the child on the course. Strollers are allowed.

Awards: Each child participating receives a commemorative t-shirt, finisher medal, and access to sponsor promotions and coupons (via email).

Event Details

What’s Included
All finishers in the marathon, half marathon and 5k will receive a finisher medal! Overall awards will be based on gun time, and age group awards will be determined using chip time.

Overall Awards will be presented to the top three finishers male and female in the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K.

Age group awards will be presented to the the top three finishers male and female in the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K.

Raceday Logistics
Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up for the 2020 Charleston Marathon Health & Wellness Expo will be held on Friday, January 10 from 10:00am-8:00pm. If you are unable to attend the expo, please plan to have a friend or family member pick up your packet for you with a copy of your photo-ID.
Spectators
We always recommend spectating at the start and finish lines! If you are looking for other places to cheer on your runner, please see the Participant Guide when it is released.
FAQs
What do I need to bring to packet pick-up?

All you will need is a photo ID

Can someone else pick up my packet?

Yes, you can have someone else pick up your packet if you are unable to make it the expo / packet pick-up. They will need a picture of your photo ID in order to claim your packet.

Are strollers allowed on the course?

Sorry, strollers are not allowed in any distance at the Charleston Marathon.

What kind of hydration / food will be available on the course?

We always provide water at each of our aid stations. There is also sports drink and some aid stations may also provide an energy gel or Gu. A more detailed overview of course hydration / food will be available closer to race day.

Will a gear check be offered?

Yes, but only for marathon and half marathon participants. Participants will receive a gear check tag on their bib as well as a bag to use for gear check at packet pick-up. Runners may check their bag at the gear check area (location will be announced closer to race day). You will need to attach your numbered tag (pulled from the bottom of your race bib) to your bag. The race is not responsible or liable for items placed in your bags and left at the bag check.

    Great route, City and atmosphere. Post race festivities were a little too spread out but the Sam Adams on draft and shrimp and grits waiting for you was on point!
