The 11th Chilham Castle Duathlon returns with sprint and standard distance duathlons with cross country run held within the picturesque grounds of Chilham Castle with views of the castle and Canterbury Cathedral. This will be followed by a very fast but challenging cycle route partly ridden on a designated cycle time trial route then finishing off with a second run in the park.

Route information
Line up on the start line in ascending order of the time you think it will take you to complete 2 x 5km run loops. Please make sure your number is showing on the front of your top. Follow the signs and markers on the run course, marshals will also be on the course. A drink station will be located at approximately 2.5km/5km/7.5km.
Run through the stunning grounds of Chilham Castle estate and 500 year old avenue of trees.
Sprint Duathlon – 1st Run – 5K | 2nd Run – 2.5K.
A very fast but challenging cycle route partly ridden on a designated cycle time trial route.

The run course is narrow in places, please be careful if you intend to overtake.
Follow RUN IN signs into transition area, marshals will be here. Get ready for the bike section – fasten your bike helmet, put number to rear of top then and follow signs to BIKE MOUNT LINE.
The bike route is 27km. Please be careful the roads are open to traffic and you must adhere to the Highway Code at all time. The course will be signed and Event Marshals are on the course at all turn points and roundabouts.
  • Cyclist left turn onto A252. Head southwest on A252.
  • At the roundabout, take the 4th and retrace your route.
  • Traffic turning onto A28 – please be careful.
  • Enter the roundabout take 3rd exit and retrace route.
  • Traffic turning onto A28 – please be careful.
  • Turn left back into Chilham Park and dismount.
At the end of the bike section approach the BIKE DISMOUNT LINE then wheel your bike back into transition.
NOTE:  There will be a Dismount Zone – if you cannot ride your bike up the small hill to the dismount line – you are allowed to push or run/walk your bike in this area. Uneven ground underfoot BE CAREFUL.
REMEMBER – Helmets must stay fastened until bike is racked!  Rack your bike, remove your helmet, put on your run shoes, move your number to the front if using a race belt and follow RUN OUT signs to start your 5km run.
Teams – the team cyclists will need to hand the timing chip over to the runner. An area for teams will be marked out for this to take place. The runner will then need to place the chip timing strap on their left ankle and continue.
The condition underfoot to the mount line is grass, this maybe slippery and uneven BE CAREFUL. Once on your bike the first section when you exit Chilham Park is tarmac but some of this surface is uneven with some loose gravel again BE CAREFUL. Do not spoil the first part of you event by being over zealous.

Teams of 2 or 3 people make up a team. Each team member will either run, bike or run. The price listed is the fee per person.
Collect your event bag which will contain 2 x numbers, 1 sticker for the bike, 1 sticker for your bike helmet, T-shirt and goodies. Make your way to Chip timing desk and collect your chip.
Please ensure your Bike and Helmet are road worthy. These will check as you enter transition- please, put your cycle helmet on.

Free parking for all competitors and spectators within the grounds of Chilham Park. Please park sensibly, thank you.
Event day logistics
Registration & transition will open from 6am. Registration will take place in the marquee in the field at Chilham Park.
* If you are entering a Relay Team, all non BTF members in the team must purchase a BTF Day licence at registration (Cost £5 per licence).
Your event number will be displayed on the board, once you know your number, please head to the appropriate desk. You will be asked to show your BTF licence.

Spectator Info
Bring your friends to watch there is plenty of room and you will be able to see a lot of the event. But could you please follow some basic safety rules both for you and competitors.
Please park in Chilham Park, if you travel with a competitor, please. If you arrive late park and the event has started please use the car park at Taylors Hill – this is a free car park – walk round to enter the park by the village hall. Please be careful if cyclists are leaving or entering the park. Marshals will be here to direct you.
