Join us for a 5K, 10K or Half Marathon through the breathtaking private estate of Cluny Castle, a stunning 16th-century castle set within hundreds of acres of landscaped parkland in the heart of Aberdeenshire. Normally closed to the public, this is a rare opportunity to run through one of Scotland’s most beautiful and historic estates.
The course takes runners through picturesque woodland, tree-lined avenues, open parkland and around the magnificent castle grounds, offering incredible scenery from start to finish. Whether you’re taking on your first race, stepping up to a new distance or chasing a personal best, Cluny Castle provides a truly unforgettable race-day experience.

Course Details
The Cluny Castle course takes runners through the spectacular grounds of one of Scotland’s finest private estates, combining woodland trails, tree-lined avenues, estate roads and open parkland into a truly memorable route.
The 5K follows a single loop of the estate, the 10K completes two laps, and the Half Marathon covers four laps plus a short out-and-back section to make up the full distance.
The varied terrain offers a rewarding mix of smooth estate roads, firm woodland paths and gentle rolling sections, all surrounded by stunning countryside and uninterrupted views of Cluny Castle. Every kilometre offers something different, making this one of the most scenic races on the Up and Running Events calendar.
The route will be fully marked with kilometre markers, directional arrows and friendly marshals throughout, ensuring a safe and enjoyable race-day experience for runners of all abilities.

Get full directionsCluny Castle is easily accessible by road and is located just outside Sauchen, approximately 25 minutes from Aberdeen city centre.
Free on-site parking is available within the Cluny Castle estate, with event marshals on hand to direct you to the designated parking areas on arrival. Please follow all event signage as you approach the venue.
We recommend allowing plenty of time for your journey, particularly if you’re travelling from further afield, to ensure you arrive relaxed and ready for race day.
Full travel information and arrival instructions will be sent to all participants in the lead-up to the event.

Race Start Times

Bag Drop
A free bag drop will be available within the event village from 8:30am. Please keep personal belongings to a minimum where possible. The bag drop will remain open until all participants have finished.
Toilets
Portable toilets will be located within the event village, just a short walk from the start and finish area.
Water Stations
Water stations will be available on the course and at the finish line. Half Marathon runners will pass multiple water stations throughout the race.
Finish Line
After crossing the finish line, please continue moving through the finish area to help keep the course clear for fellow runners. Collect your finisher medal, post-race goodies and take in the spectacular surroundings of Cluny Castle.
Race Photography
Our photographers will be positioned around the course and at the finish line to capture your race-day memories. Photos will be uploaded to the Up and Running Events Facebook page in the days following the event. We’d also love to see your own photos, so don’t forget to tag @upandrunningevents and use #upandrunningevents on social media.
