Route information
The event is hosted at East Fortune motor racing circuit which promises to provide fast and fun racing around the smooth tarmac and sweeping bends of this exciting new course.
Sprint Duathlon
The Sprint Distance Draft-Legal Duathlon consists of a 5km run, followed by a 20km bike and finishing with a 2.5km run. There will be a separate Female Wave alongside an Open Wave (in accordance with British Triathlon’s Transgender Policy).
Run 1 - 5km
The run takes place on an out-and-back course mostly on tarmac alongside the race track with short sections on grass. The run course is flat and fast! After leaving the start, you will complete 2 laps of the run course. At the end of the second lap you enter transition through the 'Run In' entrance.
Bike - 20km
The bike takes place on the smooth tarmac of the East Fortune race track. The track is 11m wide with plenty of fast flowing corners. After leaving transition through the 'Bike Out' exit and mounting your bike, you will complete 9 anticlockwise laps of the race track. On the final lap you will peel off to the left before dismounting your bike and entering transition through the 'Bike In' entrance.
Run 2 - 2.5km
The second run takes place on the same course. After leaving transition through the 'Run Out' exit you will complete 1 lap of the run course before crossing the finish line.

Sustainability and Race Mementos
TriWorks are conscious of the environmental impact of their event and want to be part of the solution and not the problem. For that reason they are only providing Race T-Shirts and Finisher’s Medals to those who would like them.
Triathlon Scotland Membership
In order to ensure you have adequate third party insurance for the race you will need a valid race licence. If you have Core or Ultimate membership of Triathlon Scotland (or Welsh Triathlon or Triathlon England) then this provides you with a race licence. You will be required to provide a physical or digital copy of your race licence at registration along with photographic ID.
If you don't have a race licence we will pay a levy on your behalf which provides appropriate third party insurance on the day of the race.
Race Belts
You will be provided with a race number at registration. This needs to be displayed to the front during the run sections and to the back during the cycle section. The easiest way to do this is with an elasticated race belt around your waist. You can either choose to provide your own race belt or purchase a Zone3 race belt alongside your entry.
Kit List
Draft Legal
For draft-legal racing you will need a roadworthy bicycle with traditional drop style handlebars and brake levers. Importantly, you are not allowed to use time trial bikes or any form of clip-on aero bars. Wheels must have a minimum of 12 spokes, and therefore disc wheels are not allowed. A well-fitted helmet must be worn and fasten at all times during the bike leg.
FAQs
What are the rules of draft-legal racing?
The majority of normal duathlon rules remain the same. The main differences relate to the type of bike you are allowed to ride, with aero bars and disc wheels not allowed. Importantly, you are also not allowed to draft off athletes of another gender or athletes on a different lap. We would recommend that you familiarise yourself with the British Triathlon Competition Rules.
Will there be medals at the East Fortune Duathlon?
In an effort to reduce the environmental impact of racing, there will only be wooden Finisher’s Medals for those who request one when checking out. They are available at no extra cost. If you decide not to take a medal we will donate the cost to our charity partner.
