As with the last 2 Ocrs I've done the running/Hill climbing and cold got your energy completely zapped before getting anywhere near the end of the course where you needed it most... They should have the hardest obstacles near the start of the course and the frozen wet and muddy ones at near the finish.. Then more people would maybe have a better chance at completing it all... If you want a hardship challenge look no further. Probably the best quality race t shirt I’ve had for sometime, better than Spartan and Rat Race. Decent medal too! The pit lane hang out zone is great, soup availability was great too.

The course started very strong but personally I feel was a little meh after the car pull area. The slalom running went on far too long and was just tedious and boring by the end. It felt a little thin on the ground Marshalling for some of the obstacles, in particular the log hurdle/climbs up the top of the run just before the carries was unmanned and I saw a guy slip and fall off the side pretty badly. there were no marshals there at all and competitors had to stop to check on him. Unfortunate but could’ve been worse with no help there. … read more

Fantastic event, well organised and the terrain was awesome. Not too challenging but Challenging enough to push you.

Only downside for us was the fact that the monkey bars were way too high and some of out team couldn’t complete them. Perhaps lower these or put some sand bags in place at the bottom.

Cheers

John

MacTuff is like a family. Alex, Marnie and the crew are always friendly and helpful and go the extra mile. Since I turned up to my first MacTuff training day in 2016 I've always been made to feel welcome, got an enthusiastic hello whenever I've seen them halfway round the course at other events around the country, and felt valued and supported when running MacTuff itself. The atmosphere at their events is always really friendly, the course is very challenging (that quarry gets damn cold in the heights of the Scottish winter) , the obstacles are great fun and with some really unusual ones (thinking of the car pull and American football squad in particular), the marshalling is great (big props to the civvies but especially to the squaddies that are always there), parking's free and easy, and it's generally like how a certain other event near Birmingham would be if it was run with competence rather than negligence, and with the obstacles spread over the course so there's no heartbreakingly boringly long running sections! An absolutely brilliant way to start each January.

the MacTuff group are a real friendly crowd. Parking at no extra cost, good access. Come along and meet the gang. I've felt very welcome since running at MacTuff. The obstacles are challenging, yea some tough ones ,but also some fun ones.

100% well worth the trip from NI just to race. Well organised, fablous fun, tough wee course but we'll worth the effort. A number off us made the trip last year, its now been added to the annual trip. List, like Nutts, looking forward to January 2020, will also be returning with the kids for kids race.

First ever OCR (15k wasn’t my idea!) but I loved it. Didn’t prepare AT ALL physically and found certain points challenging but a well organised event. Felt the drinking water points (plenty of NON consumable water throughout the course.. mainly mud) could have been spread out a bit better (seemed forever in to the course and then in close succession).

A great welcoming team atmosphere and for a newbie, I’m seriously considering my next MacTuff return.

If you want tough this is for you. Challenging course, gruelling at times, good obstacles and a serious jump into freezing water after mud submersion mean this is not for the faint hearted. Friendly marshall’s and a proper nice medal. All competitors names on T-shirt a nice touch. My only suggestion would be to separate the start for the competitive runners and ensure they’re visible to the marshals, and enforce the penalties for this group. Atmosphere was really special can’t wait to come back. Thanks for a great event.

Whole event is brilliant.. some grips from ppl about marking of changes to routes which could be marshalled better. Personally I didn't have an issue with this. Some obstacles were a little 'tired' and could do with some fresh timbers but overall the changes from 2018 were great so just keep up the incremental improvements..best race..tough and best start line in ocr

MacTuff is by far one of the best value for money OCRs, with a really challenging course with bags of fun to. Not to mention the awesome medals and finishing t-shirts. The MacTuff crew put amazing event on every year. Marshals are so friendly and helpful. I’ve done it the last 2 years and is one of my favourites I can not wait to go back in 2020.

I have been doing these events for years now and being Military have travelled from Germany just to compete. Scotland throws every season at you in one day along with a brilliant & challenging course. Some of the best volunteers I have experienced. Spectacular medal, t-shirt and goodies. What is not to love about this event.

By far one of the best, most challenging and my favourite OCR out there. Absolutely best value for money around with awesome finishing t-shirt and medals. The MacTuff crew never disappoints they always puts on a amazing course and event with the most friendly marshals about. Can not wait for 2020.

Great atmosphere from start to finish. One of the best starts in Scotland to a race... atmospheric chills over weather chills!!! Each year obstacles get bigger and better. Marshals are super encouraging, giving hugs high fives and support . Excellent value for money with some fantastic sponsors. Medals are the business along with brilliant design T-shirts. All round top event!!!

The Jan event is a tough course but the atmosphere and support is what makes it absolutely superb! I love the challenge and friendliness. I attended my first MacTuff on my own and now have friends for life! Make sure to have proper warm clothing to change into, flasks of warm drink for afterwards. It's a chilly one!

Just the most incredible atmosphere, and an amazing sense of self-achievement, that you're ever likely to experience in an OCR. Overcome doubt, challenge yourself, leave your fears behind you in the mud as you run on unburdened.
It's as well organised as you could reasonably expect from the best wee OCR on the planet. Don't expect to be molly-coddled, this is a back to basics fight against both the elements, the environment, and yourself. Come preppared, leave on cloud 9. The medal and t-shirt are stunningly unique, and when you see someone in a MacTuff 'Gubbed' T you'll automatically nod out of respect...

I loved Mactuff this year and have booked 2020. Great atmosphere and brilliant venue.
The medal is pretty cool and the soup at the finish line is awesome.
If you are looking for a challenge this is a pretty tough course.
If I could give any feed back at all I would have the marshals be a bit tougher on penalties and runners skipping obstacles, I lost a good 15 to 20 places on runners not bothering or blatant cheating which I understand is difficult to manage.
I also think it would be a nice touch to have specific medals for your set distance (more just a thought) with that being said I would always recommend this race and it will be an annual event for me!

Great race that will challenge you. The introduction of the different distances means the event is more accessible for more people. Fantastic atmosphere. No 2 years the same thanks to the unique weather at Knockhill. Definitely worth travelling for, super value for money and what a way to kick start not only your year but your OCR season
