This is an undulating race through the Hertfordshire countryside, on the outskirts of St Albans, where the first 5 miles are relatively flat but do not let that fool you. From mile 5 the challenge and race really hit home as the course greets you with two inclines at miles 5.5 and 7.5 then the run back to the finish. The race is superbly marshalled with encouraging local club runners and includes a well deserved water stop. Highly recommend the Fred Hughes 10 for all degrees of runners from elite to social as well organised from number collection point to marshalling.

The Fred Hughes 10 mile race has a lot going for it. Undulating course, full of twists and turns, great support and amazing views. The route is entirely on tarmac (2019) but just about the right amount of hill to make it interesting without slowing things down. Felt like a very good test - plenty of challenge regardless of ability. Route incorporates some great views and the local support is excellent - facilities at race HQ also very good. St Albans Striders have done a good job with this one - a race that is just crying out to be run.
