Route information
Explore the beautiful grounds of Highclere Castle: an iconic Victorian Castle with Anglo-Saxon roots.
This single-lap course is undulating and multi-terrain. It passes over tarmac roads, gravel tracks, woodland paths and grass fields. Please consider suitable footwear for the mixed terrain, especially in the event of bad weather conditions as paths could become muddy and slippery. Note there are no stiles, jumps, bogs or ditches.
There is a short section running on a public road so please consider other road users and follow the highway code. If necessary, be prepared to run single file.
There will be marshals supporting and directing participants, with each kilometre clearly marked. This course is not suitable for buggies.

Highclere Castle is 5 miles south of Newbury. Please use the main entrance gate, on the East side of the estate. This is accessible via the private bridge over the A34. For sat nav use, the postcode is RG20 9LE. This will direct you to a local restaurant, from here follow the brown tourist signs to the main entrance.
Parking
Follow signs to the race car park. Follow the marshal's instructions in order to find a suitable parking space. They will instruct you to park downhill facing the exit. The car park is very close to the start/finish area and all facilities. Please only park in the race car park.

Age Requirements
10k runners must be aged 15+.
The junior race is open to those aged 5-14.
Headphones
Bone conduction headphones are permitted during this race. Please be aware that as a portion of the route is on open road our marshals will ask you to remove headphones if they go in the ear or over the ear for safety reasons.

Race numbers
Please collect your race numbers on the day of the event. Please arrive at least before 9:45 to have enough time to do so, and to warm up before the race. Please write any relevant medical information on the back of your number in case of emergency and add a red X to the front of your bib if you do have medical conditions.
Cut-off time
There is a cut-off of 1 hour and 40 minutes for the 10k. After this competitors will be on the course without the help and support from marshals and timekeepers.
Wheelchairs & Pushchairs
Due to the multi-terrain course, this event is not suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs. There are narrow and uneven sections which would be too dangerous.
Dogs
Runners cannot be accompanied by dogs and dogs are not allowed on the Highclere Estate
Changing & Bag Drop
There are no dedicated changing facilities at HQ, so participants are encouraged to arrive changed. There is no dedicated bag drop, but baggage may be left in or near the marquee at the owner's risk.
Toilets
There will be toilet facilities, available from 8:30 until noon. These facilities will be free.
Other
Note that drones are prohibited on the Highclere Castle estate.
Spectators must stay in the start/finish area or car park field. The future of the event depends on everyone following these rules.
There will be no access to the castle.
There will be no opportunity to practise on the course prior to the race.

When should I arrive at the Highclere Castle 10k?
At least 45 minutes before the start of the race. To ensure you have enough time to collect your number and warm up.
Are headphones allowed?
Yes, we are allowing bone conduction headphones at the Highclere Castle 10k. No other headphone types are permitted.
How old do I have to be to participate in the Highclere Castle 10k?
Runners for the 10k race must be 15 or above. Those in the junior race must be between 5 and 14 years old on race day.
Is the course suitable for Visually Impaired Runners with a Guide?
The course is multi-terrain including but not limited to changes in gradient, tree roots, likely muddy section, field with rabbit holes, tractor paths and debris such as leaves. Please contact event organisers to discuss suitability.
