Join us for the Quayside 5K & 10K on Wednesday 4th August 2027!
The Quayside 5K & 10K returns for a brilliant summer evening of road-closed racing along one of the North East’s most iconic waterfront routes, proudly delivered in partnership with Gateshead Harriers.
Choose from the 5K or 10K and take on a flat, fast out-and-back course along Newcastle Quayside, passing beneath the Swing Bridge, High Level Bridge, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, King Edward VII Bridge and Redheugh Bridge. Along the way, enjoy views of the Tyne Bridge, Gateshead Millennium Bridge, The Glasshouse and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
With full road closures, a lively race-night atmosphere and a course built for fast times, this is a brilliant choice whether you’re chasing a new PB or taking on your first race.
The Quayside 5K also forms part of the Top Flight Race Series, bringing some of the UK’s leading athletes to the start line.

Route information
Both distances follow a stunning out-and-back route along the Newcastle Quayside, passing beneath the Swing Bridge, High Level Bridge, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, King Edward VII Bridge and Redheugh Bridge. Runners enjoy iconic views throughout, including the world-famous Tyne Bridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and the Glasshouse and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, before finishing with a spectacular backdrop of the Millennium Bridge.
The route is flat, fast and perfect for PBs, while remaining fully accessible for beginners looking for an unforgettable race experience.
The Quayside 5k also forms part of our Top Flight Race Series, attracting some of the UK’s leading athletes and creating a fantastic racing spectacle.

How to get there

Get full directionsWe strongly encourage all runners to use public transport to reach the event. The closest Metro and train station is Newcastle Central Station.
There will be NO specific event parking.
If you plan to drive, we recommend using Parkopedia.com to find a suitable public or private parking spot on either the Newcastle or Gateshead side of the Quayside.
Please be aware that some public car parks may be blocked off due to the race road closures.

There is a 90min cut-off in the 10k race due to road closures in place

BAGGAGE
We will have a secure marquee where you can leave your baggage. We recommend you bring as little baggage as possible. Your baggage tag is attached to your race number, you simply tear it off and attach it to your bag. To collect, show your number to our staff, and they will help you find your baggage.
TOILETS
Portable toilets are available on Newcastle Quayside a short walk past Pitcher and Piano.
There are no event toilets on the route.
REFRESHMENTS
There will be a water stations on the course, at approx 5k. There will also be water available at the finish along with your post race goodies and medal.
RESULTS
Results will be available here immediately after the race.
