I love this race and have only missed two since it started. This year was my first as a buggy runner and I do find the rule of us starting at the back to be a strange one. Buggy runners can still be very fast and overtaking in the crowded start of the race is the most hazardous part of it for us. Parkrun used to have the same rule but realised the error of their ways and now have changed to start in the appropriate place in the field for expected finish time. Also it was a very long way to receive the medals after the finish line, I missed the excitement of being handed it at the line. Everyone around was querying whether they had missed it as they walked there. First choice solution - closer medals. Second choice solution - more signage.

The start was great, with a good atmosphere and a clearly marked 'start' flag. The course itself had little information. It wasn't properly gritted which caused issues with speed to avoid injury. The gimbal part of the course had barely any sign posting to let us know how far was left until turn around. There was no 'finish' flag or sign and so I wasn't even aware I had finished and carried on. Marshalls were friendly.

My first ever Rudolf Southend Run and it won't be the last. From this time last year not even being able to run a mile without being completely out of breath to now. I am so proud of myself for being consistent with something I really wanted to improve in.
