After selling out the inaugural Run The Wharf in 2025, Friday Night Lights are back to bring a running experience like no other to Canary Wharf. A new and improved race route and double the size after-party… Boy oh boy, it’ll be one to remember. Do not miss out!
Run the Wharf is FNL's chip-timed night race from Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf, a 5K evening race with around 5,000 runners hitting the start line after dark on Thursday 3 Spetember 2026. It's one of the biggest nights in our calendar, and we can't pull it off without an amazing volunteer team behind the scenes.
What you'll be doing
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the event. You'll be cheering runners on at the cheer zones, handing out goodies at the finish, keeping the course safe, helping with bag drop and registration, and fuelling runners at water stations. Whether you're trackside or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a tight crew with a proper job to do, a Team Lead looking after you, and the FNL energy that makes our races feel different.
The Breakdown:
- 🛂 Info & Registration | First faces runners see when they rock up. Hand over bibs, point people in the right direction, and set the vibe from the jump. Front of house, fast-paced, all smiles.
- 🎒 Bag Drop | Look after runners' kit while they go send it. Check bags in, check 'em back out, reunite runners with their stuff post-race. Smooth operators only.
- 🏁 Start Waves | Front of the pack energy. Walk runners to the line, hype up the waves, and send them off in style. One of the loudest, best-vibed spots on the night.
- 🤝 General Support / Event Village | The floaters. Jump between teams wherever the night needs you most. Perfect if you want a bit of everything and love being in the mix.
- 🥇 Finish Line Cheer Squad | The money shot. Pop the confetti, powder and welcome every runner home. You'll see every finisher's reaction, sweat, tears and all. Bring energy and excitement to the finish line area and cheer through 5,000 runners to very end.
- 📦 Logistics & Set-up | The build crew. Get the site race-ready, shift kit, set the village up so it looks the part. Hands-on, behind the scenes, the reason the night actually happens.
- 🛣 Course Marshals | Out on the course keeping runners on track and safe. Outdoor role, on your feet for the race window, bring layers and big energy, you're a key part of the safety setup.
- 👟 Sweeper | Back of the pack hero. Ride or run with the final finishers, keep 'em moving, and bring the course home. Key safety role, perfect for confident runners or cyclists who love the long game.

Arriving at 17:30 or slightly earlier gives us enough time to get everyone briefed and in place before the event opens. Please do aim to be there on time, it makes a real difference to how smoothly the night runs.
