  • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

people have left reviews about this being a flat course, which it is, well relatively! there are 2 quite steep small hills to which the decents are pretty short, and for the rest of the course it felt like I was continuously running up hill with long very gradual inclines. maybe just me, it was quite hot too , but just don't expect a totally flat course
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

Very warm but a nice run. Atmosphere was ok, but most crowds had cleared when the half marathon runners had finished. As an overall run, I'd say 8 out of 10

Great event, and a good medal, shirt and goody bag for £15 so well done for that one!

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the course, there are few crowds around the majority of the course, and it can get lonely if, like me, you aren't the fastest runner in the world.

ALL the marshals and volunteers are lovely and so supportive. I have registered to do another 10km and I'm sure I'll be back again and again.

Really well run race on a Sunday morning in the autumn - many local businesses get behind the race. Well organised, tight first 500m as you get out of the high street but after that running on undulating countryside roads which are all closed. Well marshalled and supported throughout. Cracking medal at the end too. Definitely recommend.

Only signed up for this a few days ago as wanted to test where my running is after my ironman and getting back into it. And got a PB!Draycote Reservoir is a lovely place to run around. The registration was easy and you had access to the toilets and cafe as they opened up early for us. The course is a 2 and a  bit laps round the reservoir on tarmac road. It is undulating in parts and these a short sharp hills with nice downhill to get you back up to pace.  Basic water station at every 2.5 miles. There are a small amount of marshalls but as there was mile markers and signs there was no chance of going wrong. You get a print out of your chip timing as well. This one would be ideal for wheelchair users as well. Goody bag. Drink..water..cereal bar..medal.. and a bright yellow t shirt. Which is handy for the winter. For £12. You get a lot for your money.. more than you get for races that cost 5 times that amount. One I would do again!
  • Did the event in 2016

Whilst there isn't a lot to say about the event, everything I can say is positive.Cheap entry fee (£12- £14)The course is simple, all on tarmac and slightly undulating in places, so it doesn't get boring! The views around the reservoir are very nice too. The race HQ abd facilitirs were close to the car park, which is always a bonus for post-race tired legs.Once you've finished, you get a medal, hi-vis t-shirt and goody bag - which is a lot more than I've had in other events where I've paid a lot more to enter! I wasn't holding my breath for a good performance today, but ended up with a new distance PB so pretty happy with that! Will definitely do this event again!

This is my 4th (I think) time of running this race. The course is fast, but does have a nasty uphill finish. It was a really hot year this year, so not good for PB setting and with the 10:30 start (and later for some waves), it was getting really warm!!The goody bag included leaflets and water with a couple of small chocolates, and the medal was the worst yet. Great Run need to step up with what they charge, I'd rather a banana than all the leaflets that went in the bin!!
  • Did the event in 2018

Since this was my first official running event, the course as a whole was perfect. Majority of the course was on levelled-ground, with inclines on the start and end of the course. The welcoming atmosphere and the music bands played an excellent part into motivating the runners. For those who want to start running, I would suggest for the Great Birmingham 10k to be your first event. What I was really impressed is how it was all organised. Giving people information leading prior to the event such as road closures or anything else of importance gives people plenty of time to prepare for how the day turns out i.e. hot weather. One thing I could suggest is more water stations as having one at the halfway point of the course isn't a good idea for the less-experienced runners. Having a water station at 2.5km, 5km and 7.5km would give runners more options whether or not they need a drink. The cooling shower at 6km is an excellent addition to the course, particularly if the weather is hot. I will definitely take part in this event next year. It's in my hometown and I couldn't be prouder joining the masses and representing Birmingham.  I would like to say thank you to the Great Run Company and Simplyhealth to making this such a splendid day for me and my family.

  • Did the event in 2018

Enjoyed this local well organised race.Course was around the Chasewater Country Park on a mixture of tarmac path, trail and a pretty muddy off road country section. The day consisted of a quick race for kids, then either a 5k or 10k which was two loops of the course.Briefing at the start was good with warning to take care of muddy section with puddles.Plenty of friendly encouraging marshalls around the course made for easy navigation. The race had a nice informal family feel to it but was still challenging enough for the more hardcore runners.Good to hear the wonderful sound of the Chasewater steam train during the race.Nice medal and Cadbury creme egg as finish reward.A good one to add to the race calendar.
  • Did the event in 2017

Ran this as an easter run. A looped course so you don't get the uniqueness of a non looped course. Friendly event and some fancy dress thrown in.There is plenty of room to park and there are no logistical problems.
  • Did the event in 2016

Quite a nice small event. There is plenty of room at the start of the race for weaving in and out of traffic and the course allows for a nice comfortable race.PB's are possible here.Medals are unique and represent easter. Nice little fun run before the main event for the kids to have some fun.

A challenging road race with some big hills. This race started as a 14k and was very successful in the 90s, but over a period of time competitor numbers dwindled and the general consensus from the running fraternity was that it was an unusual distance and perhaps should be shortened to a 10k. Lots of hills, mounds of treacle-esque sand, a few stiles and a water crossing. They say it on the website but don't underestimate how hard this race is. The terrain is challenging, you never get into a rhythm and therre are barely any flat parts whatsoever.Really good fun for a Friday night.Great support from friends, family and Blakedown locals at Race HQ.Beers and a BBQ when you finish.Would definitely do it again.

The Chillington Hall Half Marathon

The Chillington Hall Half Marathon is a race through the private estate of the Giffard Family. Remaining in their family for 29 generations they are now kindly opening up the beautiful grounds for its inaugural half marathon.

Take in the views and splendour of this wonderful estate as you run through its varied landscape. The course flows past the grand house, through the woodland and on to loop around the beautiful tranquil lake.

The route will be as close to the usual 13.1 miles half marathon distance as we can get it, but never under. It follows the many trails and paths through the beautiful and varied Chillington Estate. Terrain includes grass, fields, mud and gravel. You start near the grand house up and down the main driveway, before leading off to a double loop around the beautiful woodland and lake.

There is a short bit on tarmac near the start and finish area to maximise space for runners to spread out. No killer hills, but some definite uphills with uneven ground in places so trail shoes are recommended. Please stick to the signposted route which follows clear, well defined paths and trails. Marshals will be at various points around the course and another will follow the last runner to ensure everyone gets round safely.

All entrants are expected to be reasonably fit and able to run / jog most of the route without getting into difficulty. There will be 4 water stops along the route at approx 3.5, 6.5, 8.25 and 11 miles.

There has been good reports on this race, held within Handsworth Park Birmingham I opted to sign up on the morning, the registration was simple and straight forward, 3 laps of this wonderful park, undulating all on the tarmac paths which is in excellent condition

The field was in the main first time or runners starting their running journey, this diverse crowd was plentiful, approx 200, a small contingent of club runners led the way
British Heart Foundation was the charity organisers, brilliant and simple proving that you don’t need the razzmatazz of the global brands to be successful
This event will grow I am sure, however I doubt at least it will loose its community spirit which was evedent throughout.

Well done to the whole team.

  • Did the event in 2018

Completed this race for the 1st time, was really well organised, marshalls were brilliant.
The course was quiet with no support for the most part, but as the majority was run on a fully operational air field and runway it was totally understandable and made it a unique experience, the noise at the finish line from supporters really helped with the sprint finish.
The medal is big and beautiful given the RAF centenary celebrations.
Great day for whole family with the fun run and the RAF museum open.
Definitely going to do this event again
