Sale Sizzler 4 x 5k – Race 2

Sizzling news is weve tweaked the course to now have a common start and finish located close to the 400m start line. Youll use lane 1 inbound. Outbound youll run clockwise and inbound anti clockwise. It was Confucius who said, To grow is to change, to become perfect is to have changed often so hope its even faster with that final 350m blast to the finish when you get back onto the track.

In conjunction with this tweak, Ive decided to also launch a new era for course records. The Sizzlers hold amazing, nationally ranking 5k records (thats how fast the course is)but several are reasonably out of reach so to give you a new impetus well bank the current ones and begin a new era with last years fastest times.

Running the city at 5.30am seemed like a good idea. When the alarm went off at 4am, not so much! This was the last event in the 2018 series and proved to be really enjoyable.  About 300 people gathered for the 5.30am start for the 5k route around Derby.  Nothing special about the route, but lots of people in high spirits and lots of smiling faces. No real local support (not surpriing at 5.30am!) but lots of friendly marshalls, who semed keen to make the experience worthwhile. Wearing of the event T Shirt was compulsory as there are no event numbers, good job it was a nice one! Lovely medal at the end and a bottle of water. All in all a recomended event and a pretty unique one.  Don't think I could handle a 4am get up too regularly though!

The Tissington Trail Half Marathon Sunday

The Tissington Trail Half Marathon has established itself as a real favourite with runners, often selling out months in advance, and we hold this race on two dates across one weekend to accommodate as many runners as possible. We're proud that the race regularly features in the Runner's World top 10 UK trail races.

The Tissington Trail, the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton, runs along a 13 mile route from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the traffic-free trail is ideal for a cracking half marathon and, because the route is slightly downhill all the way, you've got gravity on your side!

This race features chip timing, a quality bespoke medal for all finishers, plus well-stocked aid stations and finish line goodies! Commemorative finisher's technical t-shirts will also be available to purchase.

Prizes from the event are generously sponsored by Big Bobble Hats who will be present on the day of the event.

We are also pleased to welcome Much Better Adventures on board as one of our event partners, an award-winning platform for booking unique, ready-made adventure weekends with amazing local hosts. Join a small social group of like-minded people, or book privately just for you and friends. From Kayaking and Wildcamping the Norwegian Fjords to climbing Mt Toubkal in Morocco, check out the amazing adventures you could have on your next weekend away.

As an event entrant, you can get 25 credit to use on any adventure weekend and we'll also have one place on one of their trips available to win for one lucky entrant!

  • Did the event in 2018

This is a gravel path half marathon which is ran mostly down hill. There are some really nice views of the peaks if you have the weather.
  • Did the event in 2018

An thoroughly enjoyable, extremely well organised, event with outstanding scenery. The marshalls, as at all Nice Work events, were very supportive and friendly.
  • Did the event in 2017

wow, what can i say? Superb organisation from start to finish, a coach trip from the finish to the start of this point to point race was seamless, we were met by the blustery wind as many of the club runners warmed up, portaloos a plenty, quick briefing and we were off on the klaxon.Following the tissington Trail which if you do not know, is a disused railway through the Peak District, rolling hills, dry stone walls made this course interesting and stunning, the weather held off and it soon warmed up.There were plenty of fuel stations, water, Jaffa cakes and jelly babies, were on offer, the surface was made up of compact gravel, so no need for trail shoes. The organisers do not have rights to the path, it is not a closed event, all the cyclists and walkers I passed were very encouraging, offered support. The final 400meters throws a curve ball, like every good story, I will not spoil the ending!Great quality medal, no goody bag, that did not reflect badly, certainty value for money.

Very well organised. Never run this race before but it was clear both on the website and on the day of the event where the start was and what the route would be.

I had wanted to run this event but I'd booked Nottingham 10k which then moved it's date and organisers offered refunds for those not being able to make the date. Woohoo! I took back the refund and booked the White Peak Trail 16 mile event. I was so pleased at this because the N10k also changed it's route and it no longer went through the city, not what you'd expect! WPT was set in the white peaks of the Peak District, an amazing part of the country, with the route utilising parts of Tissington Trail, Dovedale and many fields connecting the 2.If you want an event with views, flat tracks, steep inclines and some technical descents this is your race. Pre-race was straight forward, arrived well enough in advance and was thorough. The provided maps were useful if you wanted to self-navigate but wasn't essential as the course was very well marked.Registration was also a simple affair, picking numbers up from inside Ashbourne Leisure Centre, no faff or fuss. The start line acted as the briefing area and the finish line. From here we were set off in waves of 10 minutes in packs of around 20 runners. AWESOME! Small informal groups to spread out the total pack. This had clearly been thought out as Tissington Trail can get narrow in places. The post-race accolade was non-existent! I understand that this is a young company that's watching costs, but to be handed a sheet of scrappy paper back at registration that was only fit for the recycling was a little bit gutting. Especially as the info was printed on the wrong side and ineligible. A bit of paper doesn't cut it and let's the event down a tad!Overall, I can recommend this event. It was well delivered in a great location and without the over-hyped fluff you get with some races. Just needs an accolade be it T or medal.

I wanted a local 5k race which was a great balance between competitive runners and friendly social runners. The mid Cheshire 5k didn't disappoint. Great course on closed roads and great scenery to boot. Starts with a gradual downhill to 1k, levels off during 2-3k, slight incline during the 4th and then a fast downhill 1k to finish. Great course would highly recommend.

This is a very hilly, but rewarding course. It starts off on a sports track where you do a couple of loops before heading off into the country roads. It's a course that if you go out too hard on, you will suffer towards the end. There are a couple of significant hills which take it out of your legs but were great training for my marathon.

The marshalls were great, the feed stations were adequate and the course was easy to follow.

Parking before the event was easy and there were no issues leaving afterwards.

Would definitely run this course again

This is a beautiful course around the Cheshire countryside which starts at the local leisure centre on the outskirts of town.  The race starts on the athletics track which makes for a very fast start.Once out of the town the route itself is very pretty and there is plenty to see.  It is also very well supported for a relatively small race and the on course marshals and water station volunteers were all extremely cheerful and encouraging. The course has two big hills. One at mile 5 and one from mile 10-12.  They seem relentless at first but once used to them I managed fine (the first one was tough though!). The only part of the route I didn’t enjoy was during a section on the main road back into Macclesfield, where the pavement was quite narrow and it was difficult to pass other runners without stepping off the pavement into the traffic.  Having said that it wasn’t very long before we were running back down another quieter road. It’s probably worth mentioning that this course does not have fully closed roads, but most of them are so quiet that this isn’t really a problem. The final part of the route was downhill back into Macclesfield to the leisure centre athletics track and I found myself speeding up as I hit the track towards the finish line.  The support from spectators was again superb, bearing in mind that I was one of the final 40 across the line.Once over the timing mat I soon had a medal around my neck and a cotton tote bag full of goodies in my hand, also the obligatory water and banana too.It was easy to both park and leave the race and all the parking was free.  Photography was courtesy of Bryan Dale and the pictures were on his website a few days later, free to download. The race was good value.  I paid £25 including booking fee.  There was a tshirt available too for another £10 but I booked too late to order one which was a shame. The medal itself is great quality for such a small event.Would I run it again? Yes, maybe not next year but one day, if only to see if I can do better on those hills!

Nice little 5K with good on course support from marshals and local residents.  The course starts and finishes on the local athletics track and takes you down towards the town and then back out again through residential roads to the finish.  There are no closed roads but the pavements are easy enough to run on and I was quicker than I expected! Run by Macclesfield Harriers, I felt very welcome despite it being my first race.  Would recommend and will hopefully be back for the half this year!  My children loved the fun run too!

What you need to know about 5k Runs

A 5k run is the perfect distance for a beginner, it’s 3.1 miles and is the shortest and most popular road running distance. It’s a great goal to include in your fitness regime because there’s no pressure, people walk, jog or sprint so it’s totally up to you.

Find local 5k running races

There are loads of great 5k events, they tend to attract a great crowd and are very family orientated. From runs around the London Parks, to night runs and family events, you won’t be short of 5ks to choose from. Most marathon events such as London or Berlin have a 10k and a 5k race as well so it’s worth checking the larger events.
