Marathon and Half Marathon
All distances start and finish in the centrally located Southampton Guildhall Square.
This inspiring route begins in the city centre before running past ABP Southampton docks, then over the famous Itchen Bridge with its glorious views across the Southampton Waters, The Solent and, even, the New Forest.
Following a section by the shoreline at Weston Shore, the route takes you inside the legendary St Mary’s Football Stadium, home toPremiership football team, Southampton (aka The Saints!).
Passing over Northam Bridge with riverside views once again, you will run through the beautiful Riverside Park before crossing into Portswood and running through Southampton Common (home to the UK’s second largest parkrun!).
Then, for the marathon runners, it’s time for the second lap. Now you know what to expect, it’s time to find your rhythm and really enjoy the sites and landmarks…then focus on reaching that finish line.
The Half Marathon also has the option for wheelchair racers to take part in this event.
10k
This exciting route begins by taking runners through Queen’s Park, before you'll run over the famous Itchen Bridge with glorious views across the Southampton Waters, The Solent and, even the New Forest.
This will then lead to a loop of Woolston, where you are likely to find many supporters cheering you all the way round. You’ll then head back towards the city centre, over Northam Bridge, taking you right past the legendary St Mary’s Stadium, home of Southampton’s Premier League football team.
Runners will head through the underpass to continue on their route and will run through more of the city’s green spaces, in the shadow of Solent University.
With one final loop to complete, you will sprint towards the wonderful atmosphere that will await at the City centre finish line.
5k

It was my 4th Southampton marathon but 11 marathons done so far. I really enjoyed this marathon because it is a local, friendly and easy to get to and the race course is mixer of hills, downhill and flat.

Amazing atmosphere, so many people lining the course to cheer you on. Great scenery, difficult in places but a great challenge. The race village was great, lots to do and a great buzz. Will be doing this one again next year.

Poorly organised with no warm up or clear signage. The staff that were there were lovely and helpful, but the event felt disorganised overall. The mile markers were WAY off, making it difficult to know if we were running to time or not. Course was also much hillier than expected.

Course was good. Not the most scenic in places; but overall a good route for the 10k. Organisation was great on the whole; however the bag drop queue was particularly bad at start of event - everything else was great. Atmosphere was very good on the whole with just a few “quiet” points where some extra motivation may have been welcomed. Will do this event again though 100% 👍🏻🏃‍♀️😀

Was meant to be my first marathon, however I end up in a lot of pain due to my right knee. I did complete the half marathon and still received the medal and t-shirt. I was so excited for this race, as I very often support runners at the local park. I was so disappointed in the race! the marshalling was awful, there was no crowd support. The lack of organisation. When I stopped at 14 miles, because I was determined to keep going, I was asked if I had any tail runners with me, I explained I haven't seen anyone for the last 3 miles only those completing the half. They said it was best for me to stop as I wouldn't make the cut off point, which I knew would have been the case. Although looking through the results there were people that came in after me for both the half and full way past the cut off time. This is so disheartening as I would have kept going! I am very thankful I still received the half medal. However I will definitely not be doing the marathon again next year!!

Not enough toilets at the start and incredibly long queues for bag drop off. We arrived an hour before the start and only just made it to the line in time (with no time for warm up etc)

It was an amazing day thanks to the great organisation. Only drawback was the massive queues for the bag drop and toilets! The marshals on the course and at the end were amazing!!! 😀😀😀

A good course with some elevation (170m). Lots of water stations & marshalls. A nice routing touch through the Southampton football ground, added to the event.Organisation good at the start although the number of toilets was a little low. Good support, especially at the finish line created an enjoyable event 👏

Yes,it was a very enjoyable day and well organised, the only thing I would like to have seen is after every 1km or 2kms completed there was a sign to tell you how far left of the course you need to run,I think by having these markers it helps with times and steady running, just a thought, but thanks again for putting up on a great event..
