Route information
Bala Lake, situated in North Wales and along the shores of Lyn Tegid is the largest freshwater lake in Wales.
Swim Section
Waves will be called to the jetty and counted into the water 10 minutes before their wave is due to commence, where they will enter the jetty on the right-hand side of the lake foreshore. Here, entrants will start in deep water and will be guided to the start.
The swim course will be one lap of the 1500m course, which will be marked by buoys.
Bike Section
For the bike section, entrants will exit transition and head up a short climb before turning left onto the closed A494. Here entrants will follow the circuit and head west through Llanycil, Parc and Llanuwchlyn towards Rhydymain. Theres no worrying about tricky twists and turns as the bike section is a quick out-and-back route.
The A949 road will be closed at Rhydymain, Bala and Llanuwchlyn, and even though the road is closed, riders must adhere to the highway code at all times.
Despite being a closed-road circuit, emergency vehicles and public transport will have access to the road during the event, which will be monitored by staff.
After returning to transition, athletes will cycle past the junction along to the lakeside where they will make a U-turn and turn left into transition.
Run Section
Finally, it's the last section of the race, the run section. Exiting transition from the same gate you entered transition after the swim, entrants will head along the lakeside bank, and towards the A494. Next, you will turn west towards Glanllyn Caravan Park. Dependent on the time following the bike leg, entrants will be allowed to run towards Glanllyn on the left side of the A494.
Don't forget to hydrate at the water station at the entrance by Glanllyn Caravan Park, you'll need it for that last little bit. Finally it's back to transition as you finish along the chute parallel, where a finisher's medal, bottle of water, and plenty of refreshments awaits you.
