About
Since its inception in 1982, the Potters ‘Arf Marathon has grown in popularity year on year and is now supported by crowds of spectators. The race follows a well-marshalled course with a buzzing atmosphere throughout! You’ll be running under UK Athletics rules and a UKA licence.

Route information
The start will be on the Potteries Way but runners must line up in Huntbach
Street at 10.20am before moving to the start. The finish is based in front of the Shopping Centre by the statue of Sir Stanley Matthews (our former patron).

Markers will be erected at every mile and water stations situated at 3.5 miles, 7 miles and 10 miles. See the course map above for more detail.
Junior Fun Run:
The Junior Run starts outside Marks and Spencers at 10:50 am. Please wear your race number on your front so we can give you a name check when you finish.
The route starts in Parliament Row then takes a right into Old Hall Street, right into Cheapside, right into Parliament Row, left into Stafford Street, right into Lamb Street then left into the finish by Sir Stanley Mathews Statue.

What's included
Finishers’ Bag: Every finisher of the Potters 'Arf Marathon will receive a commemorative package containing:
- Ceramic medal
- Technical t-shirt
- Energy-boosting flapjack from Wrights Pies
- Organic Energy Boost snack from Tree of Life
Runners finishing within two hours will receive a special time bonus medal, all other runners receive a Finishers Medal. The male and female overall winners will receive a bespoke hand decorated Winners’ Cup manufactured by Emma Bridgewater Pottery alongside the Winning Prizes. Presentations will be at 1:00pm at the Hanley Building Society, Lamb Street.

Get full directionsFrom the South: Leave the M6 at Junction 15 on to the A500. Follow signs for City Centre (Hanley), then follow signs for The Potteries Shopping Centre.
From the North: Leave the M6 at Junction 16 on to the A500. Follow signs for City Centre (Hanley), then follow signs for The Potteries Shopping Centre.
From the East: On the A50 follow signs for the A500. Follow signs for City Centre (Hanley), then follow signs for The Potteries Shopping Centre.
From the West: Follow signs for the A500. Follow signs for City Centre (Hanley), then follow signs for The Potteries Shopping Centre.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Stoke-on-Trent. There are regular train services from Crewe, Derby, Macclesfield, Stafford and Wolverhampton. From there you can catch one of the many frequent buses from the bus stop outside the station, the journey time being less than 10 minutes.

Parking: You are strongly advised to arrive no later than 09:30am. There are no dedicated car parks for the race, just choose the most convenient City Council car park for yourself.
Event day logistics
Bag Storage: Available in the ground floor of the Potteries Shopping Centre which is located in the centre of Hanley.
Changing Areas: Located inside the Marquee in the Centre of Hanley outside “Primark”.
Toilets: Portable toilets are located a few metres away from the Changing areas; extra toilets are available in the Indoor Market (Lower floor of the Intu Shopping Centre).
Toilets on route: 1766 Leek Road (opposite the Creme).
Food: There a couple of outlets in the vicinity of the start and finish area for takeaway drinks and food for both runners and spectators
Race Headquarters: On the day you will be able to contact an official at race headquarters which will be located in the Hanley Economic Building Society, Lamb Street, opposite Primark in the centre of Hanley, close to the baggage and changing areas.
