This was a very well organised event with ample parking and clear race day instructions sent out in advance of the event via email. The atmosphere was great, loved the music playing at the event HQ and the finish line lemon muffins were fab! The 5k course is fairly flat, little hill at the end but nothing too daunting. There was a mixture of first timers and more experienced club runners, the marshals were excellent so I would highly recommend this race for anyone looking to do their first 5 or 10k. And of course the race scenery was brill, the rest of the north west was covers in fog but the sun always shines in Ruthin!

This was my first time at this event, and having ran the Rhyl 10mile the day before I was a little tired that morningBut on the drive up to Ruthin the weather was gorgeous and with it being my town of work I started getting excited. On arrival at the leisure centre the car park was busy but I was directed straight away to an area to park my car which was great.Collecting my race number was nice and easy, and toilet facilities were good with outside portaloos and inside the leisure centre. What I thought was the start line was actually the finish, with the start being a 5 minute walk off site on a nearby road but that was not an issue at all. With the start being on an open road we had to wait for a couple of cars to pass but that just added to the excitement and everyone was raring to go. I thought the route was excellent, with a downhill start to get everyone going, a very short little climb afterwards but then mostly downhill, flat with a little incline towards the end. The course was mostly on quite country roads but well marshalled along the way. There were the occasional cheers from spectators/public along the quiet country lanes and also honks of support from passing motorists which was great. As we ran through Ruthin towards the finish line there was plenty of support from locals cheering everyone along.Overall I came away from this event having thoroughly enjoyed myself, the course was great and the atmosphere had a good family feel to it. It was very well organised, with any questions I needed answering done so appropriately by all officials.A fantastic event and can't wait to come back again next year.Nick Hayes
