Starting in Southwold you will run 55 miles across paths, roads, and sandy trails to Ipswich. Given a 15 hour cut-off time this race is perfect for anyone wanting to try an Ultra for the first time. Make sure to save your energy during the race as the undulating hills will be demanding throughout. There will be 5 checkpoints in total stacked with lots of nutritional goodies. At the 26 mile checkpoint, you will also be able to access your drop bag. Tackle this Ultra for the rewarding experience.

If travelling from London you can take the Greateranglia service to Ipswich, from there you can take a bus to Martlesham which will only be a short walk from the bus transfer at Martlesham Community Hall.

Drop bag
At registration, you will be provided a small drawstring bag that you can access at the 26 mile checkpoint, make sure to fill it with items that you will not need all the time throughout the race.

The race officially starts at 08:00am, but please make sure to arrive at the race venue in Martlesham between 05:00am to 06:00am as you will need time to register.

What kit do I need for the Sandlings 55 mile?
You must bring the following items to the Sandlings 55 mile, hooded jacket with taped seams, hat (Buff style headwear acceptable), foil space blanket, First Aid provisions with sterile dressing and bandage as a minimum, charged mobile phone (waterproofed in a plastic freezer bag or equivalent), hydration system with a minimum of 1 litre, basic nutrition, emergency contact number sheet (provided).

Beautiful course, lacking marker posts in some areas (down to the local council not the race organisers) so definitely download the route to your watch/phone. Nice mix of open and forest land some of it absolutely gorgeous and some very taxing (Suffolk seems to be mainly sand!!).Not too many checkpoints, but all well stocked with fruit, nibbles and fluids with super helpful marshals.Weather wasn't on my side as it was very hot and I managed to miss a marker post, but everyone was very supportive until I was pulled at the last checkpoint due to missing the cutoff. Would definitively recommend it in the future especially if the start can go back to 7am in case the weather is super hot again.Well organised event with super staff and beautiful scenery. Highly recommended

Would recommend to anyone who is thinking of running a long way. Beautiful course, but make sure you have the GPX as not well marked

Medal was a bit underwhelming for the long distance covered, other than that a very good event.

Got lost a few times as lots of areas had no official signs and it was difficult to judge the distance between turnings in the instructions. Could the instructions be written alongside a strip map of the route to make it easier to check where you are? Was a great event, apart from the heat. As I DNF'd, I hope to try again next year.

Thoroughly enjoyable and organised event. Only criticisms were:1. The course could have been better marked as navigation was tricky at times. 2. Due to the move of CP4 at Wantisden the following leg was near 15 miles. A long way to go with limited water.
