This is a great race: beautiful & varying course with hills, tracks, forests, mud & views - you definitely wont get bored! Its pretty hilly and can get super muddy at times so its a tough 9 miler - make sure you pace yourself up the first big hill and save a little in your legs for the final climb.… read more

Without doubt one of the best races I've ever done. I usually race in warmer, flatter parts of the world - being based out in Sydney - so this was very different. But an epic different. Beautifully hilly and the terrain took us down windy woodland paths and snow covered fields. Really fun vibe at the finish line and a marvellous start to the weekend. Top tip: wear trail shoes - I didn't and I found myself slipping all over the place. Area of improvement: the course could do with a couple more signs.… read more

This was genuinely savage. It had snowed lots and was seriously cold so some lovely breaking through the frozen puddles as you run through! Its a brilliant race though - beautifully organised and some absolutely stunning views - especially up on the top of MayHill! Its definitely hard so I wouldnt take it ok if youre not ok to run a flat half marathon but its absolutely worth the effort. Great BBQ and coffees in the garden centre after and an awesome medal!!

Liked the sound of this event. Thought it would be a goal to keep me running through winter which it most certainly did. First time doing this event on Saturday. Absolutely loved it made even more special by the snow. Great bunch of peeps and atmosphere which made the whole muddy hilly ordeal thoroughly enjoyable the sunshine was a lovely extra, please preorder more rays for next year's Mayhill Massacre

Great experience albeit a beast, upgrade to the 15 mile course in 2020. Have a go even if you simply stroll the course and enjoy the views.

It's the first time I have done this race. It was really tough, especially due to all the mud and the hills., but I love a challenge! Race organisation and support from the marshals was great. Definitely a good one to do and would come back again.

The Mayhill Massacre is my favourite race. Very different to other races and I love the challenge of the mud and the hills. Im one of the few people to have done every single race since the first in 2007. Im an absolute fan and would recommend it to anyone. Lets hope it can keep going!

This was my first stab at the Mayhill Massacre, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well organised, very friendly and suitably challenging. I never thought running 9 muddy miles could be so good.

I have run this event many times now and its always a challenge. It is held in winter so the weather is invariably cold, sometimes freezing, sometimes extremely wet. There is a healthy uphill start followed by the amazing Mayhill open vista, which is soon forgotten as the wonderful downhill section starts. After that, its simply hell as bog and hill climbs intertwine. Then, just as you think its a long downhill finish, you get sent back up for more punishment. And youve paid to take part! P.S. being 60 this year, I find myself in an age group of runners 60-99. I believe the current expression is WTF. I have been put in the dustbin group of unlikely to finish without the aid of a defibrillator . Thank you very much! There were no runners over 70, so please allow 60-69 and then 70+. I hope one day to run in that group as well.

Mud/hills/mud/hills/mud - what is not to like. Well marshalled event with great medals. Can't fault it. My 2nd year doing it in 2018 - 4 mins improvement on my PB. Will definitely be heading back next year for more fun.

Had a really good morning running through the forest covered in mud! Great reception at the end with a great medal, however I feel like the finish line didnt really work with cars and people on the road hindering my last push to finish. Overall great day out!

This was my first Massacre and I joined friends from Newent Runners to take it on this year. Up hill right from the start with a bit of a bottleneck but we soon got going. Generally forest trails but there were some fantastic super deep muddy sections, one of which robbed me of a shoe!. The marshalls were very attentive and clearly showed the way to go. We were very fortunate to have pretty good weather although it was cold but who notices that when youre having fun. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves even when we sloshed about in the mud. Great event, great fun. Very happy with my time of 1 hr 50 mins.

The course was hilly and extremely muddy. It was a very tough race and aptly named! However the view from the top of Mayhill was worth the climb. It was a really friendly event. All of the stewards had a smile and words of encouragement. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

First timer couldn't fault the event. From car park to course we'll organised and marshalled. Event described as hilly and muddy and that's exactly what you got. Well recommended and hope to give it a go in 2019
