Route information
This is Wales' most scenic swim, featuring blue flag beaches and an electric atmosphere. Based at Tenby's North Beach in Pembrokshire, you can choose from a 2.4 mile or 1.2 mile swim as part of the Long Course Weekend Wales event.
Both distances will start on North Beach at the same time in a mass start. 2.4 mile swimmers will tackle two laps of the course, exiting the water before following the chute back to the start line for the second time round. Athletes participating in the 1.2 mile distance will complete one lap of the course, keeping the first two buoys on their right and the final buoy on their left, before following the chute to the finish line.
There will be support boats and kayaks with qualified life-saving personnel on hand.

If travelling from Carmarthen please take the A40 towards St Clears. From the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A477. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A478 and follow the road to Tenby.

Event Itinerary
The full event itinerary will be sent out closer to the event date.
Race Packs
All event content will be sent out to participants via email approximately 2 weeks before the event to ensure the content is as up to date as possible.
Everything you will need for the event will be available to collect at registration on race day. Please bring photo ID on the day.
Race Briefing
There will be a mandatory video briefing as well as an official event brief at the start of each event.
Kit
Wetsuits are mandatory for this event. It MUST cover the torso and thighs, but must not cover the hands or feet. It is recommended that you race in a triathlon wetsuit. You can hire a wetsuit from the Official Swim Partners Zone 3 via the following link.
Participants must wear the Activity Wales Events swim cap provided for the event, which will be given to you at registration. If you wish to wear your own swim hat, you MUST wear the race hat on top.
Age Requirements
- Swim – 1.2mi: 14+ years
- Swim - 2.4mi: 18+ years
Expo
The expo will be attended by over 50 stands! Thursday is a special offer day so come early to bag a bargain.
Cut-off Time
There will be a 1-lap cut-off time of 1 hour which will begin after the last athlete has entered the water, and an overall event cut-off which is 2 hours after your start time.
FAQs
How is the start organised at The Wales Swim?
It will be a mass start, therefore you will need to get into position prior to the starting gun. If you think you are in with a chance, get to the front - if not, try and organise yourselves with quicker swimmers nearer the front and slower ones at the back.
Will the course be marshalled at The Wales Swim?
There will be support boats and kayaks with qualified life-saving personnel on hand. There will be a Race Briefing prior to the race, but if you have any problems it is standard procedure to lie on your back and raise your hand and you will be picked out the water as soon as possible.
Do I have to wear a wetsuit at The Wales Swim?
Yes this is mandatory for all our swim events, and it MUST cover the torso and thighs. It MUST NOT cover the hands or feet.
When do I get my timing chip and race number for The Wales Swim?
These must be collected at registration upon showing photo ID. Race numbers must be clearly displayed on your swim hat and hand. Racing chips must be worn on the left ankle.
