Thrunton Thriller Trail RunA697, Longframlington, Morpeth NE65 8AD, UK

Thrunton Woods itself only allows a very small number of events to be hosted there so dont miss your chance to strap your shoes on here. Roots, rocks, mud and a good helping of prime Northumbrian bog awaits to test your physical and mental resolve. There may or may not be a special ending (wink wink) and there may or may not be an extra 2 miles on the overall distance (cough!).

  • Did the Half Marathon in 2018

A ridiculously big event with about 50,000 runners on the list. A great first half because the streets are full of cheering crowds and the support is amazing. It's point to point so you start in Newcastle and finish in South Shields, so you either need to get picked up at the end or get public transport. The route would be slightly dull if it wasn't for the crowds and it undulates a fair bit

Scottish Half Marathon & 10K198 High St, Musselburgh EH21 7DX, UK

The annual event has grown in popularity since its inception four years ago and 2018 was no different. Around 5,000 runners headed down to the East Lothian coastline on a stellar year for the event, which saw three course records broken. Runners took full advantage of the stunning flat routes, taking in the famous Golf Coast along the way.

For the second year, the Scottish 10K kicked off proceedings, starting at 9am at Musselburgh Racecourse, before the Half Marathon got underway at 11am from Meadowmill Sports Centre. An estimated half a million pounds was raised for charitable causes, and plenty of personal bests were achieved!

Thousands of supporters lined the stunning East Lothian routes on what was a bright, mild September morning. The final furlong at Musselburgh Racecourse provided the perfect backdrop for runners to bask in their achievements and muster a sprint finish in front of the large crowds as the finish gantry came into view. Once over the line, runners were able to kick back with a beer or glass of champagne and a bite to eat in Musselburghs stunning picnic area.
