Route information
The swim offers 59 to 63 degree water temperatures in October. Wetsuits are encouraged for safety, but are not mandatory. The swim course is well marked and traverse the kelp beds that make up the Monterey Bay area. With a deep water start and finish on the beach, we will have great support from every angle of this swim. Olympic swimmers will swim two loops and have a short beach run around the rock and back in water.
The bike course follows either a 2-loop or a 4-loop course starting and finishing at Lover's Point, round the headland at Point Pinos Lighthouse Reservation down to Asilomar State Beach.
The run is an out and back on the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail and turns around at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Olympic distance will do it 3 times and the Sprint distance will do it one time. All turnarounds will be marked and will have volunteers for direction. Your finish line will be on Ocean View Blvd near the transition area. Aid stations will be located at each end of the run course and at each mile with hydration and nutritional needs.
