Route information
Back on May 30-31, 2025, this relay event takes place just 15 minutes outside of Zanesville in Central Ohio, offering some fantastic trails for you and your team to take on. There's a sparkling lake, limestone cliffs and a huge white sand beach to enjoy, and you'll be camping on plush grass. To keep you occupied, the Ragnar Village will be stocked full of sponsor products for you to try, with a demo tent and Ragnar Gear Store on-site.
You'll cover 15.3 miles of trails in total, tackling the Black Locust Trail, Licking Bend Trail and King Ridge Trail. The Black Locust Trail spans 3.4 miles, following a mellow cinder trail before swinging left again on a single-track through the woods. Near mile 1.5, the trail joins up with the Yellow and Red Loops before heading left to wander among the trees. Just after mile 2m you’ll hit the boardwalk around Bald Cypress Swamp before getting back onto single track and climbing once again. As you reach the top of the climb and sneak onto another track, the trail gets gnarly, twisting and turning on a technical rooty surface. Just after your one mile to go alert, the trail crosses the outbound Yellow and Red Loops. This is your marker to put on your kick - less than a mile to go and it’s (almost) all downhill back to the Village!
The Yellow Loop, the Licking Bend Trail, is 5.3 miles long, starting with Dillon Lake on its left hand side. You'll continue alongside the Red Loop runners initially and then rejoin the Green Loop for a quick sprint across the main park road. The trail then meanders through the trees, heading further into the woods, and then peeling off from the Red Loop runners as you hug the edge of the field. Just after mile 2.5 is the turning point for the Yellow Loop. From here, the trail swoops and dips for 2 miles, in and out of creek drainages as it makes its way back home, views of the lake breaking through the trees. If your road shoes could see the look on your face, they’d be pretty jealous. The last half mile joins the Green and then Red Loops and then it's all over!
Finally, the King Ridge Trail covers 6.6 miles, and is nearly all fun and fast, with some technical sections thrown in. After splitting from the Yellow Loop, the route stays high, winding its way through trees and rocks. As you pop out of the woods, you’ll soon head right back in, climbing to the highest point on the Red Loop. Mile 3 is the turning point that brings you ever closer to the beach. For the next three and a half miles you get a front row seat to awesome glimpses of the lake.
