Did the Half Marathon in 2021
It is a nice route apart from having to tackle the crowds in Herne Bay on a very narrow path that nearly resulted in serious injury to myself and a small boy. There were lots of very nice marshals stood in the sweltering heat. Unfortunately, there was no shade on what turned out to be a seriously hot 28 degree day and only one water station. Knowing this in advance, we took water for the start and complained to the organisers who claimed it was due to covid rules. It wasn't because it states that there should be a least one on a course over 10k and having only one meant everyone on the course visited that one rather than spreading people out. We ended up filling up at the beach taps on the way out but the route back was not on the beach so no taps and 6.5 miles to go in the mid day heat. There were at least 5 people collapsed on route and worst of all was that there was no water at the finish and no bag drop so you couldn't even have left one there for yourself at the end. Very dangerous in the conditions and I would not run this race again.… read more

Route description

The majority of the route is along the seafront from Whitstable to Herne Bay and back and in most part is fairly flat and fast, making it ideal for beginners or those looking for a quick time.

The marshals were amazing, but the race organisers decided to only put on one water station and it was 29 degrees. It was dangerous in that heat and no water even at the finish. After informing them after the event I hope this can never happen again. The route is gorgeous, the people lovely, just poor dangerous planning mistakes.

This had the potential to be a great event but lack of water stations on such a brutally hot, cloudless day was irresponsible and there can be no excuses for this, COVID or no COVID. Also receiving your medal in your race pack before you've even run the race was a first for me and made the finish a massive anticlimax, along with no water at the finish it made this a non-event for me. Marshalls were excellent and race pack collection was easy but that is about it.

It was well organised and the atmosphere was brilliant. Thank you to all the stewards/volunteers who gave up their time and gave us all kind encouragement. Signing up for next year!

Very hot run, not enough drinks for the heat. I realise Covid restrictions but it was dangerous. No drinks at the finish. Never run a race without water at the finish before. Was told to get water in the toilet.

The only negative i can put on this event was the lack of water stops ! Yes we have covid measures in place but if you can have one you can have more. Then to be told only one bottle in 20+ degree heat

The lack of water on the course an at the finish was not acceptable. It was so so hot very dangerous in my opinion. I loved the course and the marshals were friendly and helpful. Shame the water issue will overshadow what was fundamentally a good event. An earlier start would also have been a good idea. Thanks. Sue Curran.

I have completed a few half marathons now and the scenery and course was perfect here. The sun was shining and the crowds and marshals were amazing. However the value for money was extremely poor, I appreciate that there was restrictions in place but in temperatures of 20-25 degrees only having only one water station was poor, dangerous and irresponsible. There was a few people dropping like flys and having to be seen by medics, this could have been for various reasons but the heat and the lack of water stations I am certain would have contributed. Would I take place next year - 100% if there are more water stations. This is a great course for beginners due to it being relatively flat.

I loved this event, it was an amazing atmosphere, the marshalls were all fantastic and so supportive. Everyone was smiling and having a fantastic time. Thank you

There was only 1 water station on the entire course with temperatures reaching 30 degrees with only one 500ml bottle allowed to be taken and no water at the finish.
