Route information

Ultra - 35 Miles
The race begins in the Village of Naseby, home of the Battle of Naseby in 1645 - one of the most decisive battles of the First English Civil War. Throughout the circular route, runners will enjoy a variety of historical sites and quintessential English countryside.
The Ultra event will have 5 aid stations and a cut-off time of 9 hours.
Marathon - 26.6 Miles
This multi terrain Marathon tracks a similar route to the Ultra and will take in much of the same beautiful countryside scenery.
Perfect for those looking to change it up from road marathons but not quite ready for their Ultra debut. This route is not fully marshalled and will require some of your own navigation. The organisers provide a map book and resources to keep you on track.
The Marathon route will have 4 aid stations and a cut-off time of 9 hours.
Three Quarter Marathon
A new distance for 2025, the multi terrain 3/4 Marathon is great for those wanting to step it up from a half marathon but aren't quite ready for a full.
It will follow a similar route to that of the Ultra and Marathon, over a mixture of trails and road.
Half Marathon - 13.4 Miles
A great race for those looking to ease back on the mileage. Once again, athletes will experience the extensive history of this area and take in the striking surroundings. This Half-Marathon course follows a marked and fully marshalled route.
The Half-Marathon route will have 2 aid stations en route at the 5.5k and 13.5k marks and a cut-off time of 4 hours.
10k
With a combined start line you will get a real taste for the longer routes and thrill of a big event. This 10k is a challenging undulating course taking place on the roads. This course follows a fully marshalled and marked route.
The 10k route will feature 1 aid station at the 5.5k mark and no cut-off time.

By Train
Closest train station is Northampton station where there will be a variety of buses that can take you to Naseby Village Hall or take a Taxi.

At registration you will collect your race number and map book.
Please ensure you arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled start time, in order to have sufficient time to complete the registration process. Race packs must be collected on the day.
Age Requirements
All entrants must be these ages or above for the following events:
  • 10k - 16 or over
  • Half-Marathon - 17 or over
  • 3/4 Marathon - 18 or over
  • Marathon - 18 or over
  • Ultra-Marathon - 18 or over
Bag Drop
If you have travelled by car it is advised to leave your belongings there. If not there will be a bag drop available. All bags should be airport carry-on size (56 x 45 x 25 cm).

Registration for all four events will open at 7am. Please make sure you leave plenty of time to complete this process.

Yes, there will be checkpoints along the routes, stocked with water and snacks for runners.

How is Shires and Spires timed?
You will need to collect your touch free Etag from the timing desk which is close to registration and attach this using a Velcro tag around your wrist. At each checkpoint your time will be recorded as you run through without any need to stop. Please ensure that your tag has flashed confirming a “read”.
