This exclusive 8 mile course is only open to 2,000 competitors a year, and is one of the oldest races in the US circuit. Runners will weave through the heart of Balboa Park and drift past beautiful sights like the Museum Of Us. Sign up quickly to avoid disappointment.

Route information
Participants will enjoy a unique and challenging 8-mile route through Balboa Park’s scenic trails, bridges, and windy paved roads.
The course begins and ends at the Pan American Plaza where participants then follow a downhill section that takes them to Marston Point, a foresty paved area. Runners will then enter a hilly section that takes them to the North-Western most corner of the park.
Participants will then slalom towards the Japanese friendship garden and can take in its tranquil atmosphere before completing a final loop on en route to the start/finish area.

Parking
Runners can park at the Organ Pavillion Parking lot, Palisades Parking Lot, or Inspiration point Parking lot. The first two parking areas are likely to fill up by 6:15am and 6:30am respectively, so those arriving after these times should head to the Inspiration parking area which is for overflow parking.
Directions
Follow Route 5 from all directions then follow signs towards Balboa Park.

Packet Pickup
Runners can pick up their race packet in advance on Thursday between 3-7:00pm at Road Runner Sports, San Diego. Friends can pick up race packets on behalf of runners by providing the ID of the participant. It is also possible to pick up race packets on the event day at 6:00am, participants will be charged a $5 convenience fee if they choose to do so. Alternatively, packets can be mailed to runners beforehand for a $15 fee.
Cotton Blend 8 Miler T-Shirt
All runners will be given an official Balboa Park 8 Miler T-Shirt after completing the event.
Prizes and Awards
All Balboa Park 8 Miler finishers will receive a custom medal. There are also age group awards to the following categories: M/F top 3 overall, 19 & Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+.
Water stations
There are water stations at each mile and a half on the course and at the start/finish area.
Toilets
There are toilets located on Balboa Drive and the start/finish area.
Age Requirements
Runners of any age can participate in this event.
On the day registration
There is on-the-day registration if all 2,000 spaces are not filled. Prices will be $10 higher for SDTC members at $20 higher for non-SDTC members.
Dogs
Dogs are not permitted on the course.
Strollers
Strollers are not permitted on the course.
