The Zappos Running Bay to Breakers 12k is an iconic course through nine of the city’s most notable neighborhoods. The run starts in Embarcadero and runs west along Howard St, running all the way down to 9th St, where is turns and continues onto Hayes St. The course then continues through Golden Gate Park, running the length of the the park along John F Kennedy Dr, turning onto Martin Luther King Jr Dr, before finishing on Great Highway, where runners finish alongside Ocean Beach.
Runners will take on the infamous Hayes Hill, one of the most notorious climbs in racing at a 2/3 mile long hill. As well as the beach, runners will experience a lot of sights that the city has to offer. On the streets on San Fran, runners will get to see Yerba Buena Gardens, The Painted Ladies and Alamo Square Park. When cutting through the Golden Gate Park, runners will catch a glimpse of the Conservatory of Flowers, de Young Museum, and the Murphy Windmill.
Breakers Bonus
Those who fancy trying something a bit longer have another option, runners can choose to do the Breakers Bonus 3k which adds to the end of the original route, for a total of a 15k run. This race is added at a fee but comes with an exclusive finisher's medal.

Did the 12k Individual Runner in 2017
Be prepared for a crowed high energy run that feels more like a party than a race! Most participants run in clever costumes, but it is not required (clothing in general is also not required). You will be cheered on for the entire race since a mass amount of people come to watch the run too. At the starting line, runners are grouped into corrals based on mile pace and you are sent to start from fastest to slowest. Be prepared to wait quite a while if you have a slower mile time.

Did the 12k Individual Runner in 2019
What an amazing day! My first Bay to Breakers, and despite the rain in the morning., lived up to the hype in terms of atmosphere and organization! What exceeded expectations though was the actual run. I knew it would be a lot of fun, but kind of thought would get stuck in traffic, and not ultimately post a good time. Should you want to push yourself though, it is actually a great course, with plenty of space if you start in the right group, and a great mixture of flat and hills to test yourself! Definitely doing again!
