The country to capital ultra is widely regarded as the opening event of the Ultra calendar. Beginning at the Shoulder of Mutton in the heart of the Chiltern Hills, the course will wind through the picturesque countryside before picking up the Grand Union Canal and making its way along the final stretch into little Venice. Before the canal expect the course to be muddy in some places with some hills to be expected throughout.

The terrain breakdown of the routes are below:
  • 11.0 miles of cross country trails (26%)
  • 11.8 miles of roads and paths (28%) 20 miles of canal tow path (46%)

By Train
Wendover Train Station is a two minute walk to the Pub. Chiltern Railways run trains from London Marylebone every 30 minutes - journey time is around 50 mins.
The finish line at Little Venice is located just 10 minutes from Paddington Tube and Train Station.
By Car
There is plenty of parking within Wendover, but bear in mind that the race finishes in the centre of London and as such public transport is advised.
Please be advised there is no parking in the pub car park.

Start & Finish Lines
The Start line is located at Shoulder of Mutton Pub, HP22 6EJ. The Finish line is located at Floating Boater Waterside Cafe W2 6NE.
Registration
Runners will collect their race number trackers and map book at registration on the day of the event. Entrants will also be subject to random kit checks to ensure they are carrying the appropriate equipment.
Age Requirements
All entrants must be 18 or over to enter the event.
Baggage Transfer
The organiser will transfer a single bag from start to finish. The bag should be no larger than airport carry-on size (56 x 45 x 25 cm).
Cut-off Times
There will be a cut-off time of 11 hours for the event, and given the nature of the race, there are a number of cut-off times which are detailed below:
  • Checkpoint 1 - Lowndes Park (7.7 miles) - expected between 9:30 - 11:15
  • Checkpoint 2 -The Dumb Bell (17.3 miles) - expected between 10:35 13:45 - advised not to leave after 14:00
  • Checkpoint 3 - Cowley Peach (26.5 miles) - 7 hour cut off
  • Checkpoint 4 - Greenford (33.2 miles) - 8.5 hour cut off
  • Checkpoint 5 -Sainsbury's Tow Path (37.3 miles) - 9.5 hour cut off
  • Finish, Floating Boater (43 miles) - 11 hour cut off
Is there an age limit for the Country to Capital Ultra?
Given the physically challenging nature of an Ultra marathon, participants must be at least 18 years old.

No, the course will not be marked but there will be lots of footpath signs and the organiser provides a map. This years event will be the first tracked and interactive race.

Did the race in 2017
Good route and a great season opener. May not be as muddy this year but once you get from the Chilterns to the M25 its canal all the way which may or may not suit some and be sure not to wear pure Trail shoes if it has been relatively dry!. Clearly marked route, aid stations okay and a pub at the end at Paddington with Guinness FTW.
