Was asked a lot by marshals if I was the last runner. Should have had a back runner.

Absolutely brilliant course, no laps or repetition, and quite varied terrain. Plenty of hills and muddy sections, so it is challenging (and of course there’s the big splash through the brook at the end!). Was a lovely atmosphere too, everyone was so friendly, I came on my own but immediately made some friends at the start line. Just a really nice day out!

Dash for the splash was a really fun run - not a PB course, but an interesting route, which was well signed and marshalled. I’ve never done anything like it before but will definitely do it again next year - loved receiving a sticky toffee pudding for finishing!

There was no stipulation about a finish time and the back pacer overtook me and my friend as in his words we were going too slow! He did say he would come back for us but he didn’t. The Marshalls started clearing the directional signs away as we were half way through the course and one young lady under 18 joined us as she was lost. There was no duty of care for this vulnerable runner. Another Marshall told us it was for runners and I did say we were runners but slow ones. We were made to feel an inconvenience and asked not to finish the course as the volunteers had given up their time and had places to be. I have never been made to feel the way I felt today and asked to cut short on a race and this would put me off future events. To add insult to injury we were told that as we had not finished (not our choice) we were not entitled to a sticky toffee pudding. My friend who we had brought along as a Marshall to support us requested that we at least get a pudding which we did and a full refund was offered but it was too little too late and not one I would want to experience again. The bag drop had been disbanded and our bags were just left on the field- the least someone could have done was taken them to where the organisers were seated. A complete shambles. Teas, cake and coffee was advertised as well as a 150th commemorative event going on after and we saw no signs of that at all. An event that states I should be smiling all afternoon has made me feel sad, angry and deflated!

If I could give this event minus stars I would. This was an event I was really looking forward to doing. I love cross-country and mud and water events but the way my friend and myself were treated today was appalling. Myself and my friend run every week, run lots of events but we are slow runners. My friend is particularly slow to an ongoing arthritis problem in her knees so we wanted to take it safely and slowly. The back marker left us and told us to follow the signs and make our own way. After 3k we saw a Marshall who gave us a map which was difficult to follow, the markers then disappeared, we found another runner under 18 completely lost so we liked after her. Before 5k we were met by a Marshall who was particularly rude and told us this was an event for runners. We explained we were runners but slow runners. She then told us volunteers had other things to do today! The only reason we were found by another Marshall was because our friends had volunteered to Marshalland were concerned as they hadn’t seen us. They were told “oh yes those two women, they’re very slow and will be a long time but you can go back” which they refused to do. We were then “encouraged to go bank to the finish missing out a good 2 or 3k. Then when we got back to the finish we found our bags which had started out in a covered bag drop (which was meant to be manned) just left on the grass where anybody could have picked them up. Thankfully we left no personal effects in them. The treatment of slower runners was appalling and positively bordered on discrimination because we weren’t fast. On the event site it doesn’t specify that there’s a time limit or what type of runner this is designed for. To have a minor on their own without any duty of care to her whereabouts is also shocking. They did provide a refund but it’s not the point. I’m short if you’re not fast don’t go. What should have been a lovely fun event was absoluteiy ruined for us
