Route information
The 26.2 mile course consists of 3 laps of Richmond Park. The first lap is 12 miles and follows a route around the perimeter of the park in addition to cutting through the centre of the park. The second and third laps follow the Tamsin trail, each lap being 7.1 miles long. The start / finish area is located close to Sheen Gate on the north side of the park.
It is important that all runners check the route map on the Richmond Park Marathon website to familiarise themselves with the changes from the first year, as the first lap may differ.
To avoid any runners taking any unplanned diversions, there will be a lead cyclist for the runners to follow, as well as plenty of signs and arrows directing you in the right direction.
Please could all runners keep to the left side of the Trail Paths, as this should help stream a smoother run around the park.

Cons: the course is not very well marked; if you end up running alone and aren't familiar with the park it's easy to lose your way.Pros: it's a friendly race with lovely marshals, immersed in nature, water stations are great and were stocked with not just drinks but all sorts of food

Course was very challenging. 14 hills by my recall. Great route which at times could have been clearer at stages with simple arrows. Atmosphere of people going through the park was limited albeit the finish gate was lively each time you went through. Good fun if you like them tough

I must say it was a horrible experience. It was not well organised at all, no atmosphere of encouragement, no music, no nice entertainment before the course, the goodie bag was not vegan nor good for after race pack, the end of the course was super lonely, too spread out made not many people run together. Overall very very bad experience

Generally speaking it was a decent race and a fun day out. However some improvements are required for next year. Advice to runners: Learn the route! From talking to other people these issues were unique to 2023 and were not experienced during previous years. Let's start with the negatives: -Half Marathon Medals accidently given out to some finishers. Very disappointing, especially if this is your first marathon.-I appreciate this is a trail marathon, however the signage was poor. When running laps of the park the race route follows the Tamsin Trail. Some runners were taking sections on the parallel (longer) trails as there was no race signage, just the small Tamsin Trail signs. On the "out and back" section in the west of the park, according to the website and the water station marshal the "back" section between Richmond Golf Course and Ham Gate Pond should have been via the path and not the grass. Most people technically went off course here and ran further than planned? All of these issues can be resolved with more £2.50 race arrow signs. -Too few marshals at key road sections, specifically near Robin Hood Gate on the first lap. Two runners went off course whilst a marshal was engaging with a lost/confused motorist. No marshal (or signage) at Sheen Gate at the start of the first full clockwise lap. The race route actually briefly disjoins the Tamsin Trail at this point, however there was no way to know this. The positives: -Well stocked water stations with a good choice of snacks.-A nice touch having the deputy mayor hand out medals to some of the faster finishers.

I enjoyed it, the course could have done with some more flags for direction as large patches with none so could easily take a wrong turn. I also received a half marathon medal for a full marathon, I wasn’t too bothered by but some could feel short changed by this.

Stunning location. Great water stations, the biscuits were a nice touch. Very friendly volunteer marshalls and route well marked. There are a couple of good public toilets around the park. If someone is looking for an easily accessible, stunning trail run in london I would definitely recommend this.
