Kit List

We don't have any specific advice as the course is along roads all the way, just make sure to wear shoes that you are comfortable running in!

Spectators

We love spectators! To say thanks for their amazing support, we've arranged plenty of things for them to do at the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon – including live video streaming on a 13sqm LED Screen, dance performances, live music, “pubs en route” and more!

So where is the “best place” to watch the race? There are loads of great places where you can meet your runner en route – many have great facilities too. Multiple “cheer stations” and “music stations” are positioned out on the 13.1 mile course. Confetti, cow bells, horns, signs and any other “motivational paraphernalia” is all welcomed to our event to help keep our runners running and you cheerleaders cheering! Head to the Mayford Arms to enjoy live music, hot drinks and breakfast whilst you watch the race.
In addition, a number of pubs positioned along the route offer fantastic deals for the day on special “breakfast BBQs”, beers and more! Details of offers will be published shortly. A number of businesses and restaurants in Woking Town Centre will also offer special “race day deals”, so plan ahead and make a day of it.

FAQs

Can I run with my child?

With full road closures in place and a dedicated team of volunteers, the safety of every child is fully addressed and catered for. If your child would prefer to run with you, that’s no problem. They can start at the back of the pack with you/their chosen family member. Your child must be registered to race, but there is no need to register their chaperone.

This event is always well organised. It is good that the roads are closed for this event. I have completed this run for the last four years and it has always been enjoyable.

A fantastic race - excellently organised and superb fun! I would definitely recommend this race both to those who have never run a half marathon also to those more experienced runners.
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

This is a great run. As usual it was well organised. The course is fairly flat so it is suitable as a first half marathon. There is plenty of support.
  • Did the Half Marathon in 2019

The run was a good one...flat, fast and great volunteers along the way. Good facilities etc.

There were rail works with South West Trains and when combined with the strong winds on the day meant that the services to and from the race were very limited. Getting home was more arduous than the race. Perhaps there could be better co-ordination with the public transport given the road closures etc. At the start, there was a 20 minute queue for the bag drop and at the end of the race, just past the finish line all the runners slowed right down for what seemed like an inordinate amount of time picking things and walking through the constrained crowd etc....for such an expensive race, I thought things could have been organised a lot better. Don't want to discredit the organisers for having a go - just providing feedback on how it can be improved next year. Thanks
