Half Marathon

This scenic, single-lap half marathon is set in the glorious countryside surrounding Woking and Guildford, and follows a fully-closed and professionally marked and measured route out from Woking town into the rural delights of the nearby quaint villages. This picturesque race is made even more enjoyable by live music and communities of local supporters. The course is flat and fast, and boasts an impressive course record of 1:02hrs.

5k

As one of the only closed-road 5k races available in the country, this UKA-affiliated race is fast and furious – and boasts unparalleled PB potential .If you want the “half marathon experience” with less running – this is the race for you.

Set early in spring, our 5k is the perfect “first race” for the new year – and a great start to the day at the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon! Setting off first from the main gantry, runners will enjoy some of the best bits of the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon, including: a lead car, professional route marking, a water station, and a fantastic mix of urban and rural scenery.

Taking new runners an average of 30 minutes to complete, the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon 5k is a very achievable race. If you are not ready to train for and complete a half marathon, but want to enjoy the mass-participation racing experience – the 5k is the race for you. Everyone aged 11+ is welcomed to get involved and give this race a go.

Kids Run

The Mercer Surrey Half Marathon Kids Run, sponsored by Halstead School, is one of the UK’s largest kids’ running races for those aged 6-16. Starting under the main half-marathon gantry, the Kids Run showcases running as a stand-alone sport in a fun and exciting environment.

Pacers

There will be pacers provided by Xempo Race Pacing for Half Marathon runners. Each pacer will run for a specific time which will be indicated by a large, coloured flag.

There will be pacers for 1.30, 1.45, 1.50, 2.00, 2.10, 2.20. Give yourself a few minutes before the start to find the pacer who you want to run with, or judge the pace for yourself.

The run was a good one...flat, fast and great volunteers along the way. Good facilities etc. There were rail works with South West Trains and when combined with the strong winds on the day meant that the services to and from the race were very limited. Getting home was more arduous than the race. Perhaps there could be better co-ordination with the public transport given the road closures etc. At the start, there was a 20 minute queue for the bag drop and at the end of the race, just past the finish line all the runners slowed right down for what seemed like an inordinate amount of time picking things and walking through the constrained crowd etc....for such an expensive race, I thought things could have been organised a lot better. Don't want to discredit the organisers for having a go - just providing feedback on how it can be improved next year. Thanks

One of the first 5k runs completed for a medal. Normally complete Park Runs only. I volunteered the previous year with Woking Rotaract and was allocated a free running place for 2018. Great atmosphere. Nice road run in a local area. Lots of people get involved. 3rd Horsell Guides assisted with the bag drop a good service received. It was not clear for 2019 the medal had changed therefore as I thought i was going to get a similar medal and I had a work do the day before I did not run 2019. It was good to see that friends who took part got a different medal. I hope to come back and run this soon.

I have been doing this race since it was created in 2014. Always well organised. Great local support and festive atmosphere. The only thing I would suggest is they should have a consistent them with the medals being a race that is held annually. Every year the theme of the medal is very different to the previous years.

On the day plenty of toilets and clearly organised to allow everyone to start within minutes of each other. Great pacers and really encouraging to the end. Pretty run but at times not too many supporters to cheer you on but I’m the busy parts lots of people and music to help motivate you around. Great location. March 2018, 18 months into my running journey and I signed up to the half 5 days before! My aim to run every step and finish in a sub 2.30 time. It was very well organised from signing up to getting to the start line with my number. The course was reasonably flat and although mainly road an interesting one. The atmosphere was great, great marshalls and public support along the way and super friendly runners. I loved evrry minute and finished having run it all in 2.22. I have run 2 more this year but this one wins hands down for atmosphere and support. Highly recommend.

Nothing special about it at all, it's no better or worse than any other Half Marathon. Key positive for me is it's in my home town so I can just walk to it. Biggest negative is it is in March time so training is during the Winter. There are significantly better runs in the Autumn, simply for this reason

have done this each year since the beginning. This year I have to say is probably the least organised event yet! Not enough toilets, bunched at the start and a massive bottleneck at the finish line. Didn't get my banana at the end and had to battle my way through the crowd just to get my medal and water and out of the way! Not what you need after 13.1 miles running. At 41 a head I have serious reservations about next year.

This was a fantastic experience and my favourite half marathon course yet. It flew by and I even got an unexpected PB!! Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend the Surrey Half - it just felt like an easy and stress-free event, from getting down to the Leisure Centre, to bag drop, plenty of toilets and a short walk to the start - just very straightforward. The course itself is really nice although conditions were a bit blustery. It is undulating as such but none of the climbs or drops are really testing. There were crowds in lots of pockets, the majority of the race being run in country villages.I'll definitely be back. Good standard of running and support for all standards, excellent value for money and all in all a really enjoyable event.

AAT, as always, had stellar organisation. Great event village, everything ran to time and plenty of toilets. Some big queues for the info desk and bag drop but they cleared through in good time. The course itself is dull as anything, just running through undulating countryside with very few spectators. The bands and such on the route helped a bit but for most the course there's no atmosphere at all.

I ran this one second time and I will return once again for sure. This venue is almost domestic for me. Course is not very interesting just urban/rural scenery and I wouldn't say is flat, there are few long climbs. Atmosphere this year was not so supportive like year before, but considering weather I am glad for all people came to chant for us and give us that little push. Kudos to all of them. This is only my opinion and I understand many runners might not like this, but I really appreciate they are trying to make this venue free from headphones, I find it to be very dangerous for runners to don't hear each other. See you next year.

Great organisation, and fantastic support / atmosphere. Only problem when out on course ( and it was very windy ). The runners on the opposite side were choosing to run directly towards us on our side ( cones where there to separate the directional flow), one runner even told me to shut up, when i asked kindly to stay over. Frustrating to say the lease when your heading home bound and with a hard head wind. All in all fantastic day and would do it again.

It was a great event with an awesome atmosphere and a beautiful course through the countryside. My only criticism would be the lack of sign-posting throughout - by this I mean both in the area around the race centre for competitors and/or spectators to find the event; signs to direct spectators along the course for observation points; and also the lack of distance markers on the course. I only saw "4 miles" and "8 miles" signs but no other indication of how far I had run or was remaining. I would have expected a sign every mile or at very least a "1 mile to go!" type sign. Other than this I had a great day.

Really enjoyed the event. Second year in a row I have taken part. Route for 5k is clearly signposted. It's a one lap route which I prefer and is fairly flat. All distances have received the same medal both years I have taken part.5k run has an early start of 8am so the venue is fairly quiet at that time, by 8.40 the event has got much busier with the participants and supporters for the half.Race pack was received well ahead of the event and communication leading up to the event was good. When I ran last year it was my first ever race, I have now run others and still feel this one is really well organised and very supportive of new runners.

This is the third time Ive completed this race and its one I look forward to over the winter months. The event is very well organised, with nice and helpful volunteers at the start, throughout the course and at the finish. I was aiming for a pb but when I turned up I was concerned about the weather being a factor. However with the course being more or less shielded from the elements from the amount of tree cover I neednt have been worried. I finished the race just under half a minute within my target, so I was very happy. The race starts at 9am meaning an easy journey to and from the event by train on the day. Loved every minute, apart from the bag drop. I know organising thousands of bags can be a hindrance, but the time spent in the queue just seems too long. All in all a brilliant event!

Take note that I am generally a trail distance runner but I like to do short and road runs for training. The Surrey half has become an annual event for me (last 4 years) as it is local, really well organised but generally because I love the course and the support is amazing. Great crowds, bands, entertainment etc - that helps push everyone through. The other racers were/are friendly which helps those a little new to running and the village has all you need for snacks. Plenty of loo's (although there were queues close to the start) - bag drop quick - A real sense of community for such a large race. really recommend for first timers to experienced runners.

I was a substitute last minute so had to change my number on the day, the organisers were great and efficient in amending this. Race was well organised, lots of space for baggage drop off and inside which helped with the wind! They had clearly marked out the pens at the start and two pace makers for each. Roads were closed making it easier and safer for the runners. All in all a good race and one to do again!
