Half Marathon
This scenic, single-lap half marathon is set in the glorious countryside surrounding Woking and Guildford, and follows a fully-closed and professionally marked and measured route out from Woking town into the rural delights of the nearby quaint villages. This picturesque race is made even more enjoyable by live music and communities of local supporters. The course is flat and fast, and boasts an impressive course record of 1:02hrs.
5k
As one of the only closed-road 5k races available in the country, this UKA-affiliated race is fast and furious – and boasts unparalleled PB potential .If you want the “half marathon experience” with less running – this is the race for you.
Set early in spring, our 5k is the perfect “first race” for the new year – and a great start to the day at the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon! Setting off first from the main gantry, runners will enjoy some of the best bits of the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon, including: a lead car, professional route marking, a water station, and a fantastic mix of urban and rural scenery.
Taking new runners an average of 30 minutes to complete, the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon 5k is a very achievable race. If you are not ready to train for and complete a half marathon, but want to enjoy the mass-participation racing experience – the 5k is the race for you. Everyone aged 11+ is welcomed to get involved and give this race a go.
Kids Run
The Mercer Surrey Half Marathon Kids Run, sponsored by Halstead School, is one of the UK’s largest kids’ running races for those aged 6-16. Starting under the main half-marathon gantry, the Kids Run showcases running as a stand-alone sport in a fun and exciting environment.
Pacers
There will be pacers provided by Xempo Race Pacing for Half Marathon runners. Each pacer will run for a specific time which will be indicated by a large, coloured flag.
There will be pacers for 1.30, 1.45, 1.50, 2.00, 2.10, 2.20. Give yourself a few minutes before the start to find the pacer who you want to run with, or judge the pace for yourself.

There is no parking available on race day at Woking Leisure Centre – except for Blue Badge holders. If you do have a blue badge, the event village is open from 7:00 a.m.

Please arrive within plenty of time for your race start.
Age Requirements
Entrants must be 11 and over the enter the 5k, and older than 6 to enter the Kids Run, and 17 and older on race day to enter the Half Marathon.
The use of buggies are permitted for children under 5, and all children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
Chaperones will be asked to wait outside the kid's zone until the race has started, and then may join the pen once it's started to empty.
Parents/Guardians should keep the tear-off tab from their child's number to facilitate repatriation after the race. All children must be registered to run but chaperones are not required to register themselves.Any child with a chaperone should start at the back of the pack.
Race Packs
Bib numbers will be available for early collection at Fitstuff Running Shop (located at 23 Chapel Street, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3UL) to all participants who have registered by midday on Friday 25th February. Available collection hours are detailed below.
- Saturday 26th February 10 am – 5 pm
- Monday 28th February to Friday 4th March 11 am – 1 pm & 4 pm – 6 pm
Participants who registered after midday on Friday 25th February, or who are unable to collect their number in the week prior, can collect their number at the event.
Pacers
Xempo Race Pacing will be providing a number of 'Pacers' to help Half Marathon runners achieve their desired pace. They will be running with large coloured flags indicating their finish time, which are listed below:
- Purple - 1 hour 30 minutes
- Green - 1 hour 45 minutes
- Orange - 1 hour 50 minutes
- Yellow - 2 hours
- Black - 2 hours 10 minutes
- White - 2 hours 20 minutes
Water Stations
There will be 4 water stations with bottled water around the course.
Toilets
There will be toilets available for use at the event as well as a single toilet at each water station along the Half Marathon route.
Wheelchair Entrants
This event is suitable for wheelchair users. Any entrants wishing to compete with specialised equipment should contact the organiser to ensure they can be accommodated.
Buggies, Pushchairs, and Strollers
Buggies are not permitted in the Half Marathon or 5k races but are permitted in the Kids Run.
Dogs
Participants must not be accompanied by a personally owned or controlled dog during an event. Entries may be accepted from participants with medical assistance dogs, subject to them being correctly registered and identifiable as such, and subject to prior approval by the Event Director.

While obviously the main thing to watch are the epic runners, there is a lot for spectators to enjoy at the Surrey Half Marathon. Music and cheer stations, food and drink stalls, and a bunch of businesses offering 'race day deals' are all available for spectators to enjoy on the day.
Confetti, cow bells, horns, signs and any other “motivational paraphernalia” is all welcomed to the event to help keep the runners running and you cheerleaders cheering.

Can I run with my child in the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon?
With full road closures in place and a dedicated team of volunteers, the safety of every child is fully addressed and catered for. If your child would prefer to run with you, that’s no problem. They can start at the back of the pack with you/their chosen family member. Your child must be registered to race, but there is no need to register their chaperone.
Are there on-course water stations at the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon?
There will be 4 water stations along the route with water bottles for participants.
Is the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon a flat course?
Yes, this course is fast and flat, making it the perfect introduction to a new distance, or a shot at a personal best.
Can I bring my dog to the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon?
Dogs are not permitted at the event. Entries may be accepted from runners with medical assistant dogs, permitted they are approved by the event director and have been correctly registered.
Can I wear headphones at the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon?
Noise-cancelling headphones are not permitted at the event, and while other earphones/headphones are discouraged, participants choosing to use them should ensure they are set to a low enough volume that instructions from event officials can be clearly understood.
