Race director had early start. Waited for me to finish, kept finish inflatable up, had music playing and announced me! It was my 50th state marathon!

The location of the course was beautiful but it was not set up well at all. It was very clear that there weren’t enough volunteers, no mile markings, unmarked water filling stations and so many bikes that were able to access the course.

Really fun and beautiful course along the shore! The only tricky spot was the gopher holes in the first 100 yards. Great variation in ups and downs.

I would have given the course a 5 star but the beginning and ending part on the grass was rough, uneven turf that had sunken areas that caused me to fear turning an ankle.

I recommend this marathon to local runners. For me, its proximity to where I live is a big plus. Additional pluses include the relative ease of logistics, such as parking closeness to the start/finish line. Since it is out and back, you don't have to catch a shuttle bus for a long trip to the start line. I was skeptical about the cupless water stations - not because of the need to carry a cup or water bottle -- but I was concerned about needing to wait in line to dispense water and the speed with which the water poured out of the dispenser. But there was no wait, since there were ample water dispensers, and the water gushed out from the dispensers quickly.I tried to use the course to BQ (qualify for the Boston Marathon). However, I came up short. I attribute it to the hills. The course is more hilly than I suspected. I probably will not target this marathon in the future to BQ, but I still recommend it as a "practice" race. The temperature was in the low 60's and there was a cloud cover for most of race and a slight breeze. So weather was cooperative. The road and trail pavement conditions were, for the most part, fine.I was impressed by the race organization for such a small race. There were ample volunteers who showed up. The course was well marked with cones and mileage marker flags. There were ample water stations and outhouses. The race started on time and the timing was accurate. Photographers on the course took a lot of photos of each of the runners, increasing the probability of a good photo for each runner (yes, I paid for one). Runners got a great looking T shirt and a handy bag at registration. We all received great looking medals for our finish.Although the spectators were few, they were enthusiastic and boisterous. This is not the marathon for you if you need to count on a crowd to spur you on. The course itself is beautiful with the ocean on one side for most of the course.

Couple things that bugged me- there were no finisher medals at the end and the turn around for the 10K was across the street… no one looked across the street for the turnaround so we all missed it and ended up running an extra 0.3 miles! Other than that- I enjoyed the race.

Hello, my father and I signed up for the half marathon, but he will be unable to attend as his father-in-law recently passed away. I was wondering if I could change my half marathon entry to a full marathon, as I would like to run the distance he will miss in his and his father in law’s honor. Thanks, Cameron Duggan re: order #45027
