The Leicester City 5K Winter Series – Race 1 route

The Leicester City 5K course is a two lap route covering the tarmac paths within the boundaries of Victoria Park. The course has been officially measured and carries a certificate of course accuracy (certificate number: 12/186). The route will be clearly marked using large route arrows and directional cones, as well as being marshalled throughout. The route is a flat course with only one gentle incline to contend with. We would ask you to remember that we do not have exclusive use of the park and you should be aware that other park users will be on the course.

    Did the 5K in 2019

Very well organised, slight hiccup beyond organisers control of traffic being allowed into the park just before the start. Lots of marshalls to direct the runners, must be hard to get them for wintry nights. One marshall this time was practically hiding behind a tree on a dark corner at a four way junction and if I hadn't done the course before it would have been very easy to go the wrong way! Have previously been mis directed by a marshall so perhaps briefing needs tightening up? Ladies on the desk at the start and finish always very friendly and knowledgeable. Love the atmosphere and think it is exceedingly good value for money. It was unusually popular this time round which shows people return and bring new runners along too. Thank you for a great race.

Very dissapointed there was nothing at the end...... no medal (you had run out) or goody bag ☹️
First 5k race felt a bit of a let down if I’m honest

I’d never done anything like this before, it started late. So I got cold. I’ll never be first, it’s about getting through it for me! Most of the marshals were encouraging but getting to the last left turn in front of the war memorial and see a lady packing away cones was a bit demoralising. Also when I reached the end the crowd was encouraging, which was really nice but there was no well done from an organiser or who ever he was who simply asked me if I knew how many were behind me and then said good job I’ve saved 3 medals. Dumped it on the table and left me standing there like a naughty child. Another person came over to help him with his far more important job and gave me the filthiest look for standing there.
I had no idea if any presentation had been done, medals awarded 30 minutes after the start to I guess for the fastest runners. Let’s do this, I signed up because I thought the races were for any level, and encouraging people to get out and get fit. Emails have been excellent but sort out your front line face. A few smiles and encouragement wouldn’t go amiss. For some of us it’s a huge thing to get there in the first place.
