The Tour of Two Forests has been a classic ride since its first edition in 1980. The start and finish lines are in Santa Clarita, and the course traverses parts of L.A., Ventura, and Kern Counties, plus the Angeles National Forest and Los Padres National Forest that give the ride its name. It begins with a cruise through Piru, before heading down South Mountain to Santa Paula and then the easy climb up into Ventura County’s sleepy hideaway of Ojai. After that, the ride ascends 30 mile Pine Mountain and enters the heart of the ride: a rugged and beautiful mountain country. Next comes Lockwood Valley to Gorman before a rolling finish through Pine Canyon, Three Points, Elizabeth Lake, Leona Valley, and down Bouquet Canyon to the finish back in Santa Clarita.
This is a 191 mile ride with about 14,600 feet of elevation gain. It is a very scenic courses in Southern California, and has very few traffic lights.
There will be at least two SAG vehicles either roaming around the course or being parked at key points along the course. There will be one car ahead of the faster groups, and one staying behind for the slower groups. Vehicles will move up the course and follow along making sure everyone is taken care of. The course will have no official lunch stop; so if you would like a sandwich, please bring your own. SAG vehicles will have miscellaneous bars and water only.
