5 Valleys (60k) & 7 Valleys (100k) Entry Criteria
There is no specific entry qualification required, however, participants should recognise that these routes are over challenging terrain and not suitable for novice participants.
The organisers highly recommend that you have experience of ultra-distance running. Please note that depending on their pace, participants will be completing part of the event in darkness.
All participants must attend the event briefing and all participants must carry the mandatory equipment. This will be checked at the registration stand.
13 Valleys (180k) Entry Criteria
All 13 Valleys (180km) participants must self-certify their preparedness by agreeing to the following participant self-declaration statement (you will be asked to confirm this at the point of entry):
Participant self-declaration statement
By entering the 13 Valleys Ultra event, and subsequently presenting at the start line, I understand the challenge that it represents. As an experienced off-road endurance runner I believe myself to be able to complete the event, having familiarised myself with the details on this website.
- I am both aware, and capable of completing the distance required having completed similar events.
- I have sufficient experience to understand how to manage my safety in remote mountainous terrain.
- I acknowledge the demands on me with regard to navigation, managing my own nutrition and hydration and the other safety challenges that I may encounter when on the remote hills of the Lake District.
- I recognise I will need to be able to navigate the terrain safely at night, in the dark and in potentially challenging weather conditions.
- I understand the physical and mental demands that will be brought not only by the distance, but also the elevation gain and loss over the course of the event.
- I will have completed sufficient training, for both skills and physical fitness, to ensure I meet the above statements between entering and participating in the event.
- I will apply sound mountain judgement at all times, knowing my limitations and will make reasoned decision with regard to starting / withdrawing from the event, even if it compromises my race result.
Age Requirements
All participants must be aged 20 or over at the time of the event taking place in order to enter the 13 Valleys, 7 Valleys or 5 Valleys events, and aged 17 or over at the time of the event to enter the 2 Valleys Trail.
Cut-off Times
Due to the challenging nature of the event, there will be cut-off times in place for each distance.
They are as follows:
- 13 Valleys - 45 hours
- 7 Valleys - 25 hours
- 5 Valleys - 15 hours
- 2 Valleys Trail – 7 hours
There will be cut-off times along the route to give participants the best opportunity to complete the event.
