Route information
This epic, 57-mile ultra begins in Glasgow and finishes in Edinburgh, allowing you to take in both iconic Scottish cities. Following the River Kelvin, Sustrans Route 754, the Forth and Clyde Canal, the Union Canals and the Water of Leith, the route takes in Glasgow's vibrant West End and Falkirk to finish at Edinburgh Athletics Track.
The race will start at Glasgow's Riverside Museum, heading out into Bishopbriggs, Lenzie and Kilsyth, before reaching Falkirk, where runners will continue eastwards through Linlithgow and Broxburn to finish in Edinburgh.

  • Checkpoint 1 - 5.3 miles, Lambhill Stables (water only, no support crews permitted)
  • Checkpoint 2 - 10.8 miles, Barleybank Car Park (support crews permitted)
  • Checkpoint 3 - 17 miles, Beside Canal near Woodend Riding Centre (no support crews permitted)
  • Checkpoint 4 - 25.4 miles, Falkirk Wheel Car Park (support crews permitted)
  • Checkpoint 5 - 30 miles, Canalside, Polmont (water only, no support crews permitted)
  • Checkpoint 6 - 36.5 miles, Linlithgow Basin (support crews permitted)

The Riverside Museum has pay and display parking available.
Free parking is available at the finish venue to the rear of Saughton Sports Complex beside Saughton Rose Gardens, Balgreen Road, Edinburgh, EH11 3BQ. Please do not block access to the rear entrance to the finish venue/athletics track for the medical and event team.

Qualifying Criteria
  • At least 20 years old on race day
  • In good health
  • Must have run at least a marathon distance 'race' prior to the event
Optional Dropbag
An optional dropbag can be handed to the GB Ultras staff at race registration, which will be transported to the finish venue in Edinburgh. The bag should be clearly labelled with your surname and race number, and it must be no larger than 50 litres.
Mandatory Kit
  • Waterproof coat with sealed seams, i.e. Goretex – Min 10,000mm
  • Long Sleeved Base layer (separate from start kit in a dry bag in case of emergency)
  • Water bottles or bladder – minimum 1 litre capacity
  • Fully charged mobile phone with Race HQ phone number stored
  • Foil Blanket
  • Headtorch or Primary Light Source – Min 75 Lumens
  • Backup Torch or Headtorch (not mobile phone)
  • Whistle
  • GPS Tracker (collected from GB Race Tracker at Race Registration)

There are seven checkpoints spread across the route, offering runners snacks, drinks and refreshments. Support crews are not permitted at all checkpoints, so be sure to check beforehand.

Is there a dropbag service at the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra?
Runners can leave a dropbag at registration - the bag must be no larger than 50 litres and must be clearly labelled. This will then be transported to the finish venue in Edinburgh.
