Embark on this epic 2-day, 136-mile route from London to Holland's capital. This challenging route gives participants views of stunning countryside and the beautiful British and Dutch coastlines.
Day 1: London to Harwich - 83 miles
Your adventure begins at the meeting point of Carlton House Terrace, London, at 09:00, before the group heads to Trafalgar Square for a departure time of 10:00.
The route will take you out of London and through the Essex countryside and Leytonstone, towards the historic port of Harwich, with plenty of opportunities for refreshment breaks along the way. Although the open roads are smooth, the terrain here can include some steep ascents.
After reaching Harwich, you'll board the overnight ferry to Holland.
Day 2: Hook of Holland to Amsterdam - 53 miles
After disembarking from the ferry in the Hook of Holland, the route meanders along the stunning Dutch coastline, heading into the heart of Holland. The group will stop for lunch in Katwijk, the seaside resort at the mouth of the Oude Rijn. From there, it's only 30 miles to reach Amsterdam. This leg of the journey features, flat, smooth cycle tracks which follow scenic canals.

Return to the UK
Return travel to the UK is not included in the entry fee - this must be organised yourself, at your own expense.
You will have the option to pay an additional fee for your bike and personal belongings to be transported back to the UK for you.
Bikes and belongings can be collected from Letchworth, Hertfordshire, at an arranged time from the following Monday evening.

Age Requirements
All participants must be either over 18 or, if between 15 and 17 years old, must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them at all times.
Overnight Ferry
You will be taking a ferry from Harwich across the North Sea to the Hook of Holland.
The ferry will be fairly luxurious with restaurants, bars, a cinema and free wifi. The cabins have en-suite towels and bedding.

Yes, all cyclists must be either aged 18 and over, or be aged 15 to 17 and accompanied by an adult.

How will I get back to London after the London to Amsterdam Cycle?
Travel from Amsterdam to London will need to be organised by participants themselves. There is the option for the Challenge Central team to take your bike and personal belongings back to the UK for an additional fee.

What kind of bike should I use for the London to Amsterdam Cycle?
Road bikes are recommended for this event with hybrid bikes being an alternative. It is possible to use a mountain bike but that is strongly discouraged.

What documentation will I need for the London to Amsterdam Cycle?
All participants will need to bring their passport. If you do not have a passport, you will not be able to take part. Similarly, if you are required to have a visa to enter the Netherlands, you must organise that yourself. Participants will also need to have a copy of their travel insurance with them.

Is there any danger of me being left behind during the London to Amsterdam Cycle?
No. There will be a cycle leader at the front and back of the group, showing the way and making sure no one is left behind.
